Hi

My Zed TT developed a hissing noise - this started suddenly last night after a trip to Birmingham - no prob on the way down, when I restarted the car I got this sound that is just like air blowing from a vent (like you would hear on a plane from the aircon vents) it's especially noticable when the car is ticking over or you let of the throttle on gear change

You can't really hear if from under the bonnet - with the car ticking over it sounds like it is coming from under or around the driver side foot well - you can't really hear it from the passenger side

Car running OK but seems rather lumpy on tickover now with revs lower than usual.

Turn off the engine and the hissing dies away after a sec or two.

I won't say 'any ideas' as I am sure someone will know exactly what it is.

Leaking clutch pedal booster? check by disconnecting vaccum pipe under the bonnet by the clutch master cylinder and blow into it if its failed that will account for the different (lumpy) tickover as its drawing in air after the afm, you can drive with it disconnected (pipe blocked off ) but the clutch will be heavier, second hand they are rare to find, new about £400 from Nissan.....ouch!

Cheers for the reply

Would you by chance have a photo showing which pipe you mean? I assume if I can blow air down the pipe it has failed, if I can't then that is not the problem.

The car is a manual transmission.

That's right, mine has this issue and I just blocked the pipe off. As you look at the balance bar in the engine, there is a bunch of vacuum nipples, which should all be hooked up, right on the very end, on the drivers side, following the same direction as the balance bar itself, should be an oversized one (Larger than the rest), that's the pipe.

Thanks for the advice - that fixed it though the clutch is pretty heavy now but it will do for now.

Would like to fix this properly if I can come across a second hand replacement part though.

i may have one u need ...

as i didnt use the air collector box and pipe work when i did my manual conversion ..

I'd quite like to lighten my clutch up a little, but heavy is fine, actually gives me a bit more clutch control than being super light.
