i've been toying with the idea of playing with some of this EL stuff (electroluminescent)

and im thinking what i could do with it, i want to make a backing for my radio blanking plate (stainless with fairlady laser cut into it) and im thinking of lighting the "300zx" in rear light cluster up.

now im thinking what else i could do, i was thinking if i could replace the rear number plate bulbs with a el strip to make it look nice and uniform,

and one of the others is to buy this paint it back like OEM and light the Z up? and opinions? ideas on this?

my cars getting paint either gold or purple so a dont want any chrome on it. all would be light up blue apart from number plate that has to be white.

don't want to end up like a chav'd-up-halfords-reject-mobile

The number plate wont light up with an EL strip, it wont be bright enough, im in the process of making a white led strip for the number plate, which will light it up evenly.

The Z on the door sail plate will be nice lit up, but i dont think the Z is cut out, so you would have to address that one.

EL strips are more accent lighting for face on visual effect although some one has done some footwell lights in EL.

I had to make an LED number plate light to get through my MOT, because both the brackets that hold my number plate bulbs in had perished and I couldn't find replacements. I got a length of white LED strip from Maplins, some double sided foam tape and some weather proofing tape, all also from Maplins, did the job lovely.

All I have to do now, is before I get my rear bumper re-sprayed, fibre glass and fill the two holes that are now where my rear plate bulbs used to be, and then once it comes back from spraying, re-fit my LED strip. Lights the plate up perfectly and with the weatherproofing strip and "designed to get wet" double sided foam tape, is going to last too :D

Mine is a series of leds on a mirrored acrylic board then mounted onto the top of the inside of the bumper with clear acrylic so it will be a permanent fitting, with total light coverage of the plate. Will get some pics up once ive completed it.

Yeah I was tempted to go acrylic and make it a permanent fitting, but I'm glad I didn't, because 2 of my LEDs went out at some point, so need to replace with another LED strip at some point soon. Be good to see yours when you're done.
