Priming Turbo's

Right just got my engine sorted but have been told to prime the turbo's oil feed before doing anything else.

What's the best way to do this? I don't want to blow the tubs up :)

Featured Replies

take the fuel pump fuse out, and crank the engine, usually done with a oil feed line to turbos off, (not really pratical with our cars) until oil comes out, then connect to turbo and crank a bit more.

But as its our cars, crank the engine, count to 10 while doing it. leave to rest, then do it again. should be primed enough by that point. plug the fuse back in, and start the car.

basically you just want too turn the engine over for a while to spin the oil pump and build up oil pressure without it sending fuel to the injectors, spark is ok but if there's fuel too it will fire, no spark and just fuel and it'll flood. I always do this with petrol cars after an oil/filter change, usually crank over till the oil light on the dash goes out, can't remember for some reason if that's the case with the zed tho?

basically what i said, if you pull the fuse to the fuel pump (small fuse box in the engine bay) it will crank but not over fuel or flood the engine as the pump isnt pumping fuel.

Cheers folks. Primed them today following above procedure then ran the engine for a little while. I'm getting great oil pressure and no smoke coming out :sailor:
