check with your insurance company first as to wether they will actually cover a car thats been crashed and claimed on before. I know mine wouldnt!

Just because they dont ask doesnt mean you dont have to tell them as I suspect if you didnt tell them and then needed to claim on it they would politely tell you that you were not insured.

Other than that, photos of the original damage would be the best place to start. Look at the chassis legs to see how much they have had to be rebuilt/replaced/reshaped. Look at things like the lights to make sure all the plastic fixings are intact, has it been done properly with genuine parts?

I saw a program a while ago about dodgy car repairs where a car had had a chassis leg repaired with filler to make it look like it was undamaged, quick blow over and you couldnt tell. Until you crashed it that is!

Be VERY careful, Ive had that done to me before, mate crashed my supra payed for the repairs (not done on insurance) and put the car back on the road, came to MOT time and the guy said thats fooked I aint passing that!! Proper dodgy workmanship!! So also find out who did the repairs and are they reputable???

Thanks fellas, i assume if it's got MOT's since the accident it's pretty much okay too? is there a test the car has to pass after repair other than MOT?

A HPI check i assume will reveal the CAT D but wil it say what exactly?

Car is in Midlands which obviously i ain't, so as much info i can be armed with the better.

cheers

Should be no stuctural damage on cat d do a dvla check to see if a marker has been set against it. I deal with insurance cars alot of the time a a good cat d or c has no problem being put back on the road or insured in my tens years of working with them. Is it a private sale or ins company direct?

Cat D can range from stolen recovered (with no damage) to cosmetic damage. Although how they get classified does seem to vary by tester.

Nobody should have any quarms about purchasing a CAT D vehicle, they are meant to be put back on the road.

Cat C vehicles are more extensively damaged, but perfectly repairable and will get a note added to the V5 saying they have been damage repaired.

There is no test for repairs, just a VOSA VIC test to confirm the cars identity apon intital re-registering.

Thanks fellas :winkiss:

I've asked for pics right after the accident and any paperwork regarding the repair etc

It's a private sale and tbh it's advertised for between 1.5-2K less than normal.

Average price is 7K or a wee bit lower dependent upon mileage, this is at £4995 with 45,000 miles for a mid 2006 car.

Will see if i can get the reg for the DVLA check.

If it's being sold as a Cat D, that's a good sign your dealing with someone who's not trying to have your pants down! Cat D doesn't need to be declared by the seller. As said above it only needs an MOT to go back on the road and If it's had a few since the accident it's prob ok.

If you want a HPI done for further peace of mind inbox me the reg.
