Last time I overheard someone talking about my Z was when I had the multicoloured red one with shitty 17" work equips and tbh it didnt look too great. three young lads rode past and I heard one say "that looks shit" :2guns::laugh:

anyway today I pulled up at some lights in town, and to my left were a few guys on those mountain bikes with no seats, they were early 20s. When I cottoned on to what they were saying, the first thing I heard was "they're all autos aren't they?" and his mate replied "no, but they are like rocking horse shit with manual boxes, especially the turbos!" the first lad then said "I've never seen a black one before, it looks f&%%£n awesome!"

Was nice to hear comments like that, and I couldn't possibly let them think I had an NA auto, so I showed them what was what :whistling: would like to have heard what they said after! :sweatdrop::lol:

I had a guy in a TVR wanted to do a swap. and had a guy in a f430 stop me in ahe garage to say it was stunning and he wanted to buy it, :wack:

I get loads of nice comments. There are no nice cars around here so it really stands out and now i have my new wheels

then the black Porsche Cayenne manual drove past.......

alas I was the only car that fitted the description in the line of traffic... I did check

only joking mate, it must have left you with a big smile on your face......

now imagine if you'd stalled it in front of everyone, I saw that happen to a guy on an R1 in San Diego, hilarious

I've purposely debadged mine and last week I had three lads (teens) looking around it saying "That's awesome. What is it?". Love that :D

well when me and artztogo nipped to rugby to get some horns for his car in my red one, we had a guy in a ariel atom nod his head in appreciation at the car.

Last week had some idiot say "nice supra", thats the second time my zed has been called a supra lol, once by a skyline owner at McDonald's of all things. and then a chav last week lol

couple of kids asked if it was a lambo, which is always nice, but then have to correct them.

and ive had a few women ask when im taking them out for a ride in it lol

I used to get the odd 'Is it a Skyline?' comment

'No its the Skyline's big brother' usually put them straight

(shame it doesn't quite have the performance potential of its lesser sibling though...)

it does if you stick the RB26DETT engine in.

it does if you stick the RB26DETT engine in.

meh...the VG makes more power and a lot more torque mod for mod than the RB.

It has the Performance potential.....we unfortunatly have a lot less people tuning the Z to the same potential in the UK.

its just the typical big power dyno queen single turbo option is more difficult for us.

Skyline GT-T is on par with stock 300zx TT manual. GTR is quicker stock for stock of course. But just fire a few quid into the Z and strip out a couple of hundred kg and it destroys stock GTRs!

I'm sure most are aware of that bud, it's the handling characteristics (amongst several others: cooling etc) that are the GTR's biggest asset over the zed

just my opinion though

when it's fixed????

To me a lot of that is nothing more than hype. Yes the 300zx isn't a great handling car but the difference in speeds you can take corners under a gtr isn't that great, alot of the difference couldn't be made by normal drivers - its those who track the cars that will notice the significant stuff. And how many times on the road are you likely to have a 'comparison' outwith a straight line? Oddly, my 206 gti feels a better car round corners than any gtr I've been in hehe, just a shame it's got the structural integrity of a fag packet, that's all that stops me from pushing it any further than I do.

Having owned both, I can honestly say the GTR is a different car, and not really comparable. I never really lost traction in the GTR, EVER, except when I hit some diesel on a roundabout one time, which didn't end well. The Z I lose traction in a LOT, the 4wd system in the GTR is very underplayed and very good indeed.

I can take sharp corners quicker in the Z, because of the chassis build, it hugs down into the road better with that type of bend, longer more sweeping bends, which are more track like, are far easier to take in the GTR, it just eats them up not only with the power still on, but in many cases still accelerating from start to finish on the bend.

Without the 4WD I think HICAS is a very bad idea in a Z, where in the GTR, it compliments the 4WD system and makes for an absolutely awesome handling car.

As some have said, it's horses for courses, as I've said, they are two very very different cars, and not really directly comparable. Putting an RB26 in a Z would probably be a bad idea handling wise, the BHP numbers might be as Yowser said, but putting the torque down to the ground and keeping it there is much harder in the Z, suspension and tyres/wheels help. but it's never going to be as good as a 4WD system kicking in at the spin point, to transfer the power down there.

I had the "is it a skyline" with the old one, but I really dont know why people ask that! Closly followed by "as it got dump valvzzz" as to which my response was yeah its got two, "...well make it do it then!" lol. Last time I drove with the targas of in town!

I took it to my new house the other day and my neigbour was asking what it was, couldnt believe it was a nissan!

As stated, the GTR's handling is in a completely different league to that of the zed.

There are members who've traded up their track prepped zeds for track prepped GTR's and the differences in both platforms is huge.

Again effective cooling being a big issue with the zed.

Correct me if I'm wrong please but isn't the GTS-t suspension setup pretty much the same as the Z32, with a lot of components being directly compatible

Depending on the model, yes. The R32 GTS-T stuff is very similar to the Z, with them also having HICAS, but not ATTESSA. I think a lot of the stuff probably is inter-changable, but I haven't tried.

Raw Traction of a 4wd setup- Each wheel only has to transmit a smaller share of the overall power output. Its not nessesarily the same thing as better handling, but it does allow us mere mortals able to push harder/drive faster on the road than a comparable 2wd setup does.

There is an very old old japanese video somewhere of a GTR, NSX, Supra, 300zx and RX7 I think - all standard from back in the early 90's, all on track by Professional drivers. Unfortunatly the Z was just a lwb. :p . It certainly was'nt the big handling/performance difference some may expect, but indeed, after the dozen or so laps it had fallen behind the GTR (which was 1st) by a couple of seconds. That was completely stock vs stock.

It also does'nt mean 4WD is always an advantage, in dry weather at least. The SPL time attack 300zx and UAS Zed does a good job of eating up and spitting out track preppred GTR's and other 4wd cars on track, even those with more power.

I appreciate a 4wd systems abilities, but from a pure driving experience I prefer RWD.

GTS-T and GTR suspension setup near identical to the Z.

Although, One of the changes Nissan made to the Skyline was to improve its anti-squat characteristics - the cars resistance to transfer weight under hard acceleration. Nissan introduced too much anti-squat into the rear suspensiond design with the 300zx. Not allowing enough weight transfer, which reduces rear traction on hard acceleration. This can be seen by the extreme horizontal angle of the rear lower wishbone. Nissan improved this in the R33 and R34 by altering the mounting points of the rear lower wishbone to reduce the original anti-squat.

I have been modelling the 300zx rear suspension in susprog, a dynamic handling suspension engineering package, with plans to alter the rear subframe design to fix this.
