Ok so we had a party last night, got very very drunk and let's just say I won't be driving today, so I decided to try and fit my Koyo Rad, and do a couple of other jobs, like remove my aircon rad etc.

 

Aircon rad removed, inlet pipes removed, water pipes removed, I still can't get the damn radiator to go in!!!! It gets stuck constantly. I could maybe just force it in, but I don't want to bend all the fins and potentially make it leak, anyone got any tips on fitting one of these bloody things?

Mike's at work and I don't like getting him to do all the work. Before I had a Z I was reasonably good with the spanners, the Z is just a pig to work on, the lengths you have to go to, just to fit a radiator, or remove your front bumper, or remove the plenum, sheeeesh. Surely there must be a way of doing this? I don't want to remove the inlet hard pipes to the intercoolers, because although I can get to them now, I won't be able to once the rad is in.

I slackened off the air intake pipe mounts and prised them apart to give a little extra space for the radiator to slip in.

Removig the aircon rad would'nt of helped you, but Inlet hoses definatly have to be removed, its all about getting it in at the right angle...but not too much angle.....remove the screws that hold the metal inlet pipes to the slam panel brackets will give you a bit more wiggle room.

 

Removing the Viscous fan (if you have one) can allow you to get it in at a different angle.

 

Swearing at it definatly helps, you do need to use some force, but its the endtanks that take it rather than the fins.

Removing the aircon rad was a job to do while the rad was out anyway, I didn't remove it politely, or with any intention of putting it back in, if you get me? Should allow a lot more air through to the new Koyo Rad without that useless, unused, dented, bent, filled with crap and bird feathers, piece of bleep in the way :D

 

I haven't removed my fan yet, was hoping I wouldn't have to, because with my stubby fingers it's a **** to get back on, swearing at it I've definitely done. I think I'm going to go back out and try again shortly. I just hope I don't bugger the thing up by pushing it at the wrong angle and bending all the fins or something.

I found mine slid in really easy. and i didnt need any lube :lol::lol:

@Mikey - yeah I loosened those off and removed the viscous fan, didn't exactly slide straight in, but it went in with minimal bent fins, now filled up with anti freeze and water and has been run up to temperature. Temp gauge sits way lower than it used to, even just stood still idling, and no leaks or anything spotted either.
