Power Steering

Hey guys

After having convinced my m8 James to buy a 300zx, the bloody power steering pipe blows up on him!

he had the car on full lock and it made a gurggling and then just puked p/s fluid all over the floor. it came over from japan with the spec reading "strange noise from power steering" but when it arrived here it had a rip in the hose going from the back of the pump to the rack.

I gave him mine while the engine is out. then yesterday as he was going to park, on full lock, it gurggled and blew up. he had been driving it previously for 2 days.

any ideas???

i think it may be a pump but how do i tell?? if it was a pump wouldnt it have blown the rack seals first??

cheers

Latz

This is quite common failure and you were (and mate) to have the same pipe go, this is not the first time I have seen this problem, seems your mate saved you the hassle of splitting yours at least you will have new one when you car is back on the road.

(Tip) with the pipe off the car get a new one made up at a hydrolic place much cheaper than Nissan, strange but true I have a zed booked in for Friday to this very same job!

Following on from my previous answer, the car I had booked in today with split steering pipe had the ends removed and made on to a new pipe at a local hydrolics place whilst we waited total cost £10 checked with Nissan new pipe cost £122 + Vat WOW!!
