I suffer from insomnia but lately it's been really bad. I literally haven't slept since last thursday. I really don't know what to do as I can't think clearly am a danger to others and getting very snappy and confused, which isn't like me at all.

I've tried all the sleeping advice but it just doesn't work, the Doctor's aren't really any help as I used to take zopiclone sleeping pills but manged to get addicted to them - twice, so now don't know what to do. If I don't sleep soon i think ill go mad.......

Jesus Christ mate,

This is bloody awful - I've dispatched the missus, with instructions to to tell you about her weekends shopping plans. I'll give you five minutes...

Just a thought, maybe the problem isn't the fact you can't get to sleep - maybe its the fact your life is too stressful and/or you don't have a release for your stress etc. Sleep deprivation might be the symptom, but not the cause.. Have you considered you may need to make some lifestyle changes (more exercise, less time at work etc)?

If all else fails, ask Sussex Stu if you can smell his hanky, I've heard many things about his 'magic' hankies!

You've hit the nail on the head mate, I was medically retired from my career at 36 and the missus scarpered, lost my house and bitch took all my money then My Nephew was killed in a road accident, so not had it easy for the past few years.

I Suffer from depression but the zed keeps me going, trouble is the lack of sleep leaves me usless and feeling so unwell that I don't have the energy or reliability to get things done. Catch 22.

Still, I've got a great sense of humour, love this club and the people in it and can laugh at my problems, so don't feel you cant take the piss, because you can, it makes me laugh.

Sound like a right saddo now

I'm not particulary low right now, just can't bloody sleep lol.

PS. I aint sniffing Stu's hanky, i'm not that bleedin desperate

i watched a programme on this before, funny enough when i could't sleep. They took an insomnic and put him on a strict routine. They gave him a bed time and a wake up time. i think it was like 12pm bed and up at 6am. He was told to go to bed regardless if he was tired or not and to not have any distractions such as laptops and tv's etc and not to leave his bedroom. And regardless of how many hours sleep he had he had to be up at 6am and then do a full day and not sleep untill 12 pm the following night. i think the idea was to tire him out and force his body to need sleep. After a few weeks he went from about an hours sleep to close on 4 and eventually they got him having a full 7 hours sleep.

i think routine helps i work really stupid hours and i find it hard to sleep but i do find going to bed and not sitting on the sofa helps even when i dont feel tired if that makes sense. hope you get it sorted"

Doh not wholefoods.com !

Wholehealth.com

Here's the link http://www.wholehealth.com/vitamins-supplements/melatonin

Melatonin is a natural hormone but I know several people who use this and it works wonders for them. The best one are the Sublingual ones, you let it dissolve under your tongue

If you decide to give it a go, try with a half tablet first and then slowly increase it to 3/4 and only use as much as you need

Hope you get yourself sorted after all the problems and sadness

Do you ever have the problem when you manage to fall asleep (with sleeping tablets), you wake up at 4/5am and you're head is wired?

Managed to get a couple of hours last night  think talking about it must have helped :) thanks to everyone.

I'd find that i'd wake up suddenly and not feel like I'd been to sleep. They defenitly mess with your head. I got to the stage with the pills that they werent working and my head was all over the place.

Tony - I'll look in to that mate, cheers.

I used to work with a guy who struggle to sleep, with sleep apnea. I saw him the other day and he was a changed man. Turns out he is using a mask or something and it really helps.

He was hopeless at work always late, would fall asleep at his desk, when talking to customers and quite regularly on the loo (comedy running joke "you fallen in there paul, or just asleep?!").

I doubt its quite as bad as you describe but he said he cant believe how much its helped him.

Best thing to do is have sex or a ****:lol:

It releases endorfins or what ever that make you tied and fall asleep but its only works with men for some reason?

Have you tried eating loads of lettuce before you go to bed, or better still boil some lettuce and drink the water?

Can't stand lettuce mate, makes me puke.

Think I might order some, cheapest I've found in the UK - http://www.agestop.net/Agestop/category.aspx?CID=89

Hi Vijay & Steams

They don't look like the sublingual ones, they look like coated ones

The best are the sublingual. They go under the tongue and dissolve and are absorbed straight into the bloodstream

I'm speaking from experience..... G/F and her sister both used them and got results from 1/2 a 3mg tablet upwards

Best to buy the 3mg and start off at 1/2 a tablet and try that, you can always go up to 3/4 or a full tab as necessary

Hope you all get sorted

Tony

Hi Tony,

11th one down ;) They also sell a slow release one so it releases while you're asleep.

Melatonin works by adjusting your sleep clock (so they say). A lot of pilots and flight attendands use it as it's useful for jet lag however it is banned by some airlines due to some side effects. The old wives tale about eating cheese before bed maybe stems from the fact that it contains l-tyrosine which has mood elevating properties and can lead to 'nightmares' or at least an active mind. On the other hand tryptophan (still found in cheese but bear with me lol) a precursor to seratonin can help to aid sleep. Milk has fairly high levels but just because a food contains a certain substance doesn't mean the body can assimilate it for a specific purpose. As a supplement it was banned for quite a while but it's quite safe actually. So supplementing with tryptophan or 5HTP will help along with high carbohydrates before bed (hot chocolate made with milk anyone) . Either way while you're not sleeping you really need to just relax and don't allow it to depress you further or wind you up. Yes it's difficult but the way I see it at least you 'are' relaxing and you will find you're less tired during the day then. It's a complex situation and unfortunately the more you worry about it the worse it gets.

Na he WAITS til she's asleep

Yeah its the only time i get any.

She woke up oneday wondering how the hell she got up the duff :lol:

My 2 penneth would be avoid this site (like me now!) late at night or the internet/Pc's and TV after a certain time and give yourself a 'wind-down' time before bed by reading the paper or a book. I work at a laptop screen all day and find that i struggle to get off straight away when working late or staring at the screen for long periods (like tonight). I don't have trouble sleeping but i think that we're all be bombarded with too much info via PC and phone and need to switch off from it! I should really be reading a book now before bed, but just having my Z fix before bed!

My advice is and this is 100% genuine.

go to bed and get some sleep your obviously tied :lol:
