youve got the wrong end of the stick with my comment completely, to put it another way, think to 1990 what was coming from germany and other places, it was all cavalier gsi's , rs turbo's and mk2 golfs etc etc etc, compare them to equivelent jap cars of the time as in the performance kind, i wasnt comparing a zed to a passat as thats rediculous... which i think you know.

but look at what other countries were selling such as the rs turbo, compare that to a zed or skyline or 1 of the many many others from japan and the technology, performance, comfort is no comparrison. plus the cars from japan have aged better id say

Considering the following the mk2 Golf GTI, and the RS turbos still have, im not sure you can say that they havent aged that well. some of them still do not look 20 years old, all depends on the owner as richard has stated.

You cant compare a RS turbo to a zed or skyline, completely different market they were aimed at.

im gonna go germany too, i got a 328 bmw with 144000 on the clock and its still smooth and a great drive. for sale soon if anyone wants it

sorry but i think your wrong... these are the cars built for the performance market

how are they aimed at a completely different market?

as for ageing the rs turbo looks dated to say the least compared to japanese cars of the same age

also its ok looking at the cars now and thinking they wernt aimed at the same market

but back at the time they were, its just that japan was so ahead of there time

again falls into how well the technology has aged

think im wrong all you like, the RS turbo was aimed at a younger audience, the zed was aimed at Business men who wanted a sports car, hence the RS turbo is a small compact car Both the fiesta and escort that bears no resemblance to a sports car, and the Zed has sports car characteristics, flowing streamlined looks and a powerful power plant with good handling and rear wheel drive.

The skyline is a family saloon first and foremost in japan, and was aimed at families, not boy racers.

a more realistic comparison would be the Honda Civic type R or the Honda CRX (not delsol) vs the RS turbo, Renault 5GT turbo

got to be japan

the reason for me is compare a 20 year old jap car to a german 1 of similar age.....

Im not disagreeing, im all for 90's Japanese performance cars, but your choice of comparisons do not make sense.

Your picking £30-£40k cars from Japan, and then comparing them with £10-15k cars.

A better comparison would be with some of these German performance cars from the same era :

Bmw M3, Bmw M5, Bmw Alpina's

Porsche 911, 944 Turbo, 928

Mercedes Cosworth / AMG models

Don't know if it's been mentioned as I can't be arsed to read all the posts  But wasn't it Japanese cars that showed the world that cars can be reliable and they almost wiped out the US and Euro manufacturers?

yea my comparisons wernt the greatest, but the principal is obvious from what im saying

for me jap cars are world beaters in every aspect, always have been

have japan ever made a ture supercar??

There's that Lexus and the NSX was considered one oh and Nissan made one in '89 but I can't remember the name of it :cowboy:

ah yeah the lexus LF thats tasty.

I wouldnt class a nsx as a true super car.

Is it the nissam R390 or somthing like?

No it was the Bluebird Turbo ZX

Don't wan't to open the old chestnut but, the NSX and zed were both supercars of the day. The zed was built to out perform the 911 of the day and was quicker than the Ferrari Testarossa both of which were '80's supercars.

have japan ever made a ture supercar??

the term is an entirely media invented. There is no defination of a "supercar", despite what many people think.

The 300zx was heralded by the motoring press as Japans first supercar when it was launched.

Im sure many wont agree, but it doesnt matter, the term means different things to different people.

I would simply refer to it as a High performance sports car and what many people call a supercar, are more like "hyper cars" - another anonymous term.

The NSX is the one thats referred to the most as a Supercar.

But last time this was discusssed it went off into a several page long thread with everyone spouting their definatative claim on what makes a supercar.

I class supercars as a car only a few can afford and not mass produced.

Like the Diablo and the 300zx the diablo is the true supercar. Its like M5's are rapid but its not a super car :)

no mine is :tt2:

but then your going to have to define exactly how many units becomes mass produced....and how much is it for only a few to be able to afford.

and is that the only criteria..... how about that Tank-like Armoured vehicle, the Maruader on the Top gear on sunday. That meets your criteria, but only does 70mph.

Do we need to define performance figures....becuase then you start knocking out most of the pre-90's supercars that the 300zx is quicker than...

..etc..etc... You can see where this ends up

:devil2:
