Oh dear, it's me again. My rear spoiler is shot. Paint lifting bubbling and cracking.

Everyone says "the water's got in and is lifting the paint".

Someone else says "once your OEM spoiler has got soaked, you'll never get it dry again and any new paint will fall off like the old stuff. Get a fibreglass one, it's the biz."

Then looking at martinfa's post about his new pics over in the General forum, there are some v unkind words about f/g bumpers and Martin's off to get an OEM one.

Now I know this last is about bumpers and not the rear spoiler but it has worried me.

Is a fibreglass rear spoiler OK or does it have to be OEM?

I think fibreglass is OK for spoilers etc it's just that it is not flexible for front bumpers and splits when knocked. The eurethane fronts like stillen etc are bendy and absorb minor bumps. Shouldn't be a problem for wings etc.

Im having the same problem with my spoiler too. I was gonna get the stock look fiber glass one.

Fiberglass rear spoilers are fine wink.gifNo problem,However the foam stock ones are shit, after a few years they let the water inside, when that happens they are only good for one thing THE DUSTBIN biggrin.gif.

Hi Gio as you know I replaced my rear spoiler due to the typical paint problems with a copy from luke`s, this was after rubbing the old one down (on the car) and repainting, it lasted all of 6 months and then was worse! so took the plunge and pulled it off the back! my life what a mess it was underneath...the spoiler not the tailgate which thankfully was perfect. There is NO WAY once water has got in and started to rust the metal support stucture which is inside the molded rubber that the spoiler can be saved.

One thing though and Luke is open about this Fibreglass spoiler take a lot of prep work and we all know the finish is a result of good prep work ,I was quoted £150 to have it preped and painted! (not fitted) by my local body shop.I eventually did it myself over a two week period rubbing down and filling and building base coats, then after a last blast of base put 5 coats of clear on and left it for 5 days (air drying) before fitting and there you go, cost inc fitting was £50 + spoiler cost.I am now happy in the knowledge it will not get water in again, as an upside the spoiler is loads lighter and the tailgate is so much easier to open.

Hope that helps

Jeff TT

Ps Luke told me last night the fax you sent him was a bit unreadable and can you ring him
