Ok im at a slight loss here lol!

 

I have a brand new 1tb internal hard drive to install and have only ever doen this when i've installed window so no worries as that does it anyway, so the question is how do i install this just through windows the drive does nothing if plugged in it is set as a slave drive but obviously not partioned or formatted

You need to go to Control panel, Administrative tools, then into Computer management. Down to Disk management on the left and then find the new drive, right click on it and then format, or you might have to then make the partition active.

 

I cant remember and dont have a new hard disk to try it on, but the options you want are in there my friend :)

you should only have to do all that if the drive isn't being recognised, if it is but not formatted (though most new harddrives are already set up to be seen by windows) its just a simple case of plugging it in, starting windows, going to my computer, right clicking the hard drive, and then selecting format, with a brand new one you don't even have to do a full format, just a quick one will do as it writes the MBR, and tells windows how much space to allocate.

 

If all else fails you can slap your windows disk in the drive, go through the process as if your going to install windows, and when it gives you the option to (depending what windows your running) select the drive again and format from there. if its win7 or vista it should format with out starting the windows install instantly.

is it showing in bios? and what version of windows are you running?

not checked bios matey but can when home, its xp based on sp2 but with some custom extras

i had some trouble fitting mine as it was over 500gb apparently windows couldnt see it a friend fitted it for me and he got round it some how

thanks guys still aint got around to trying again as been busy with club and zed stuff any probs though i will be sure to return to this thread for help lol!!
