tweedy Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Just wondered if anyone on here has bought a turbo referb kit on ebay(if good or bad) or is there any other turbos i could buy that would fit straight on with out changhing the engine to much.Any info would be appreciated. Quote
big_jim Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 From what ive heard, rebuilding the turbo isn't that hard, its getting it balanced thats the tricky bit. Something you cant do yourself. I could be wrong tho. I'd have a go on something like an RS turbo, where you can change the turbo in a few hours, but i wouldn't risk it on a zed being such a big job. Quote
vodkashots Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Agree with jim on this one, balancing is the biggest problem with refurbing turbos as you need specialist machines, turbos can spin up to 10k + rpm, so need to be perfectly balanced or can destroy themselves. http://www.turbotechnics.com/ can balance turbos. Kaza Steve Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 some of the kits on ebay are inferior chinese copies....and unbalanced right from the start off to have some refurbed professionaly would be the best way to go ..but if you are changing them it would be more practicle in the long run to go for dual ball race types with a higher spec ....you could run slightly bigger tubs without having to mod too extremely i would think ..then the hard job is done for when you do feel the need for more speed.... tweedy Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 Would it be pos to go for a garret t28 upgrade with out to many mods to the engine. How much hp can the standard engine take with minor mods ie induction/fmic before changing the ecu and fuel system. Quote
Coolq Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 as far as i know 2 of us on here have/had t28 equipped cars. both with upgraded intercoolers , intakes, and chips/remaps. mine had a little more work that the other i know of and was able to put down over 520hp with injectors, remap, lightened flywheel, pulleys, full exhaust system, rps clutch, bigger intercooler, intake. ive seen one other making over 550hp at FC tuning with the same setup but fully built engine and better manifolds and downpipes..... just an idea for you tweedy... leo-r32gts Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Silverbullet can help you with a rebuild - depending on the condition it will cost about 550 quid or 600 if you want to upgrade to 360 thrust bearings. That price includes balancing by a specialist and delivery. I was looking into this but decided to upgrade to new GT525's instead. Think you'd enjoy T28's they're a good bit bigger than T25's, but you will need to get the car mapped properly and the essential other mods as Coolq pointed out. 520hp - that's pretty impressive power! :w00t: Quote
TonyB Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 IT's about 400 max with rollered standared turbos, standard injectors and chipped ECU, modified inlet and straight through exhaust Quote
