ellodave Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I have just fitted a TIM boost gauge and its reading 0.5 bar is this normal? only mods engine wise is apex air filter and de cat system Quote
leo-r32gts Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 no its not normal - sounds like safety boost which should be about 7psi (0.5 bar) - it should actually be about 9psi. Have you had your car checked on conzult by anyone? Quote

PSI with engine off, will read 0, with engine running on idle will be -10 to -14 depending what its set to read on lowest. when running, it should go to 0 first which is atmospheric pressure, then on boost any where between 1 and (what ever you have your boost set too, should be 9 as standard iirc), safety boost is 7 psi Quote
ellodave Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 yeah i had my car on conzult a few weeks ago by anthonyd and we couldnt see any problems and i have no error codes in the ecu? what what cause safty mode en? and no i only have BAR on the gauge but the standard boost gauge is reading 12psi (last white line before the 14) and its running at -0.7/-0.8 bar on idle (just about -14 white line on standard gauge) and yes both gauages go to 0 when not running. Sounds fine then, the boost gauge on the dash is pretty accurate to be honest, its the oil pressure one that seems to suffer, but i do have 2 boost gauges that read PSI if you want to borrow one and see? Yowser Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 The stock boost gauge is not at all accurate, and would certaintly trust an aftermarket gauge far more than the stock one. If you are only getting 7psi and no error codes then It will either be a boost leak or an issue with the stock solenoids, but if you can test the car with another gauge then you should do that. Quote
ellodave Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 ok i will try my brother has a spare gauge kicking about i think! Could it be the standard rec valves? just wondering as they look as old as the car (19 years) do these go weak after time and allow air to escape? Quote

Possible but you will need to do a boost leak test to know. Quote
