Update moving on from this thread :http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=150167&highlight=cam+covers

I have moved on a bit with some of the engine parts that i wanted to paint, my fear was going over the top with the colour, but once its all back together it should be broken up nicely.

Starting off with the throttle cover, i sanded down and smoothed the raised letters and will be replaced with these chrome Nissan letters, i havent stuck them on yet they are just sat on top, i need to do another couple of coats of laquer first. Also im placing a mirrored acrylic strip along the normal black or red strip found on covers.

Everything is just placed on for the pics, nothing is bolted back together yet, i wanted to make sure it looked ok.

The red light in some pics is the infrared light for curing paint.

You are doing a fantastic job Groover, keep up the good work and the updates. Very nice indeed.

red light zone in your garage

Looks fantastic Graham, very original :thumbup1:

A lot of time and effort gone into it, cant wait to see it back in the car! Or a pic in the living room of you dont want to refit it!!

The plastic bits - did you just paint them with normal paint or is it VHT stuff?

I used a plastic primer then normal paint and 2k laquer. As there are no moving plastic bits/nothing to flex, it doesnt need any adhesion promotor. There wont be too much heat in plastic bits areas to damage the paint, hopefully :biggrin:

Cheers guys, as Baz suggested, im not sure i want to put it in the car now, probably the living room :lol:

Im going to have to be really careful when installing it, or take alot of it off, not sure yet how im going to do it yet.

Now all you need to do, is build the car around it, at least you wont have to worry about damaging the paint work putting it into the car.

Looks Fab Graham, I like your colour scheme, once it goes back in the car its gonna look the NutZ mate

Cheers Daz, i have pipes lol, its the turbos im missing :tt2:

I will have a TT one day to play with, but feel i should get this one done first

That's an extremely clean and bling engine you've got there matey, definately liking the yellow, and obviously a hell of a lot of effort gone into it so hat off to you chief.

I'll be honest I'm not entirely sold on the raised chrome-like lettering as they are currently, though maybe if they were slightly sunk into a slightly oversized matching recess (if that makes sense), but of course that is just my oppinion.

Top work fella'

I know what your saying, they are only sitting there on top at the moment and not stuck down yet, but they have a sticky pad on the rear which im going to remove so they will sit virtually flush to the panel.

Sunk in lol, it took some time getting the bugger smooth lol. I have another throttle cover that i might have a go at cutting the letters out and seeing if i can get them sunk in, thanks for the idea.

I just had to take another look at that engine pic in the first post, how the hell did you get it like that?

Are those water pipes alloy or something.....that looks brand new!
