How do you get the engine to line up with the mounting bolts? I can only get the drivers side one lined up but the pass side is a good inch away and goes on the inner side of the engine mount meaning the bolt is missing the hole

I spent 5 hours yesterday trying to get the engine in but no matter what I tried it will not line up properly. I was thinking it must be a bit uneven when being lowered in.

So today I bought a load leveller and have spent another 4 hours trying to get the ******* in, but it still won't go with exactly the same results :censored:

I can't see what I'm doing wrong or why the f**ker won't go in properly. I've undone the steering rack and removed the turbo hard pipes so they aren't catching anything. The engine mounts look fine.

Help I'm at loss what to do and it's doing my bleedin' nut in :crying:

Its no help to you so I apologise, but to pull mine into place my mate tied the engine and gearbox to his van and he drove off  that soon lined it up

forgot me old mucker Bazzarella

How about bolting it up on the floor (complete with the subframe etc), then lifting the car up and dropping it onto the engine?

It was a Vivaro actually. :cool2:

if you are trying to get the engine to match to the mounts, then i would say that a pipe / hose is getting in the way on the passngers side, near the manifolds / tubs.

losen of the four nuts that hold the subframe to the chassis (not all the way!) the subframe should drop down to give you enough room to get the sump over the subframe and allow you to push the engine right back. line up the engine mounts and bolt the subframe back up.

No mate, had a good look around and nothing is getting in the way. If I line up one mount with the bolt on the rubber engine mount then the other side is about a fingers width away from the bolt. it's as though the rubber mounts are to close together? Doesn't matter which side I line up the same thing happens :wack:

I had a nightmare doing mine, but it has solid mounts and the only way I got it to line up was to loosen the upper engine mounting bolts too. It was almost impossible to get to the nuts, but it made it possible to tilt the mounts inward enough to get the engine to drop into place.

I loosened the bolt holding the driver side engine mount in place and she's in :nana2::nana2::dance:

Thanks to all for the advice especially DaveMac for giving me the idea.

All is well on Planet Steams now.....
