You could probably relocate them side by side in the middle using some custom pipeworks and brackets, but not sure thats what you meant. As for cutting them up and welding them together, you would have to be masochist to do that. With prices on ebay what they are I wouldn't even consider this route..

Just my opinion

Buying a cheap intercooler is not the same as buying a cheap turbo. If a cheap turbo fails it could cause all sorts of mishchief.

If an intercooler is cheaply made or defective it will affect performance by not reducing charge temp, or if failed altogether, your engine wouldn't be able to boost and would become difficult to drive. But it would not result in catastrophic engine failure. An intercooler is only a box with piping and veins - it doesn't have any moving parts, therefore I would be much more tempted to buy a cheap intercooler than other performance parts. I have heard that the quality on some of these items can be pretty poor, but - you get what you pay for. You can't have your cake and eat it.

If you want to do something different with your car Lee, why not fit a FMIC inbetween your SMIC's? It would need to let some air past to get to the rad etc, but if it was long and thin, I think it would work. Don't think I've ever seen that before?? Worth a thought?

Would be funny tho mate? Lol ya been lookin on ebay , not sure if they r good stuff?

Autobahn 88, do good quality intercooler kits. I have run one on my s14a for 4 years now with no probs!

Ive thought about this before.Ive wondered if you could join 2 more std intercoolers in a front mount position conjoined with the side mounts =2x the surface area being cooled..;). Probably a silly idea..lee

if it works itll be a good cheap alternative:thumbup1:

But what's the point? All you're doing is moving the position of the intercoolers and making the pipework more complicated? Without gaining extra core volume it seems pretty pointless, and will look like you've got a small & funny shaped FMIC...

Correct mate :confused1:

smithy

i think its more for the fun factor of just being different, rather than getting performance out of it.

I have 2 standard ones on my breaker if anyone is interested in them, for £40 + postage, so you can feck about with configurations with out upsetting the ones already on if your really interested in giving this a go lol

That way you dont have to undo your standard ones and can mount, weld shape, paint to your hearts content with a cheap-o set.
