Half way there

I painted the plenum on my TT when I took the engine out, but now I dont like it lol. So removed the plenum off my spare engine, did the water bypass and started polishing it up. After seeing recent plenums such as dazvert's and groover's I thought it was the only way to go

Its a long and painful process but I'm getting there :w00t: takes forever

It,s a dirty time consuming job , but well worth it :thumbup::thumbup:

Good on you for giving it a go, you will appreciate the work that goes into it when its finished lol

I have no regrets about starting it.. I figured it would suit the overall style of the car (with the bonnet up ) Only thing is, now I have to get it finished before I can carry on swapping my NA out for the TT... unless I put it in without the plenum but I guess its all easier to fit together with the engine out.

fancy doing my throttle bodies? lol, ive got the polished plenum already waiting to go on, just need the throttle bodies polished now lol

do it yourself mate :thumbup1: wouldn't take long to do the TBs

well, i must be doing something wrong then, because i started, and ive been going at it ages and i cant see to get past the caked dirt yet, using 240grit sand paper.

Are they still on the plenum mate? Was thinking if you want to bring them over to me we can polish them up.

Well done Baz, its a hateful job polishing the plenum!! It was made worse for me doing it in my car port over chrimbo in minus 15 ball numbing conditions, mine really needs doing again as its not perfect, the hardest part is the final mirror finish!!! but you will get there mate

well I found an orbital sander in the garage and some 60 & 100 grit sandpaper for wood  works a treat getting the rough texture off. Then a good scrub with 800 then 1200 to finish before the final polish.

cheers Daz I finally got round to doing it see, I cant wait until its time for the final mirror finish!! just seems to be taking forever getting the texture off

I found this works well to get the casting off the plenum

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PAINT-RUST-REMOVAL-POLY-WHEEL-power-tool-bit-/400213757852?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item5d2e994f9c

Then this to get a smooth finish, available in B&Q much cheaper than anywhere else i could find on the net 97385_P?$p$

Then one of these, before moving on the the polishing stages

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100MM-SCOTCHBRITE-TYPE-BUFFING-DRUM-METAL-POLISHING-/350261217589?pt=UK_BOI_Metalworking_Milling_Welding_Metalworking_Supplies_ET&hash=item518d320935

NB i wouldnt use the first whell above for the throttle bodies

The throttle linkage and springs can be started from the sisal mop with brown bar, no need for sanding, apart from the edge that shows when the throttle cover is on.
