..hi guys, went to view a nice 300 zx twin turbo last night, a manual in red with black leather, exact spec iv always wanted....couple of questions...

idle seemed a wee bit high/erratic...it went up when you turned on things like fan etc...is this normal??

where should oil pressure gauge sit when car warm, ie temp gauge bang in middle

what is the wee turbo gauge thing with +7 and -7 at either end and where should it sit

the car has one mismatched alloy, not sure what the wheels are on it, but how much are a set of used wheels if i needed to get them....tyres are good, so just looking for set of wheels

car had different sideskirts, front spoiler and bonnet, whilst i liked the way it looked, will this harm resale

car didnt smoke, drove well, good clutch and box and the guy wants to deal me for my mk2 golf 2.9 vr6 conversion, a car im VERY fond of, but i DO love the big zeds..very tempted...cheers in advance, gbn

ok mate, cheers....he wants to deal me for my '91 mk2 golf with a vr6 conversion....car doesnt owe me much to be fair so it seems like a good deal, but i dont think hios zed made much on ebay....who wants a 15mpg japanese supercoupe when its 6 quid a gallon i guess....my golfs mot and tax are up soon and i generally change cars like most people change their socks, so as i said, im very tempted...

From cold idle should be about 1100-1200

Once warn idle shouldbe about 700-800

Turning on the fan on climate control, turns on the Air conditioning, and revs should rise by 100-200.

Several causes of unusually high idle, usually simple - such as split vacumn hose or the need to adjust Throttle position sensor, or Idle control valve.

Hellraiser has covered the Oil gauge. As said, not very accuate and the boost gauge is no better. The buyer guide linked above shows pictures to indicate what boost gauge should go it.

A lot of these cars are running around in safety mode, without owners realising. Usually from failed electrical sensors. This restricts boost, retards timing and uses richer fuel maps......significantly affecting peformance. But if you have never driven a Z before they can still feel very fast. There are a couple of ways to test for safety mode error codes such as here and here

Be sure to check for corrosion around the sills, especially just in front of the rear wheels (underneath).

The Front bumper is a Strosek replica. Strosek are a german company which originally designed the bumper in partnership with Nissan, with the aim of it being an additional cost option. However the deal fell through and Strosek marketed them itself.

Since then there have been several copies of it, this being one of them. Most strosek copies in the UK come from Zcentre.co.uk, i think they call it the venom or something like that.

The rest of the kit is replica of veilside and/or bomex and looks like its all come from zcentre too.

Its hard to make out in the pics but I think the wheels are Dare Hiro, but again its a nother popular design to replicate.

thanks mate, much appreciated...so what are my chances of finding a wheel...they need refurbished anyway, so would i be better just sourcing a full set...???....

iv owned a lot of fast cars over the years, 20vt fiat coupe, a brace of vr6 engined mk2 golfs, bmw m3 evo e36 shape...and the nissan felt quick...boost gauge sat where the buyers guide suggested as did oil pressure..seems like a good un,....i do like the kit, and it seems well done, not all cracked...il go text the guy and see if he wants to go ahead with the deal.....could be zedded up by tonight haha

On 2nd look they are not Dare Hiro but they do look familiar. If somebody else can identify them then then you may be able to source one. Unfortuantly many makes change designs every couple of years and stop producing older versions.
