My Z started clicking at the front end when turning left, but now thats developed into both left and right.

If the car is still and I turn it doesn't do it, but when the car is moving and turning at the same time it clicks like a bitch. :cursing:

I've jacked it up and had a look underneath, no cornflake packets in the wheels lol, only thing I can find that looks like a problem is the right hand inner steering rack gaitor has leaked all its grease out. Could this be the problem and what do you think is causing the clicking?! :crying:

thankZ :helpsmilie:

Sounds like the balljoint has run dry.

While it was jacked up did you check the wheel bearings.

I spun the wheels Paul but didn't really check for abnormal movements, but certainly didnt notice anything!

Baz you need to hold the wheel a 12 and 6 oclock and rock it from top to bottom, if they is any play you will feel it. It does sound more like a rotation problem than a ball joint. You could also check the brake pads.

I've been looking for potential causes whilst I've been stripping my Z down for the engine swap, the most obvious thing I've found so far - the right hand front wheel nuts were all 'loose'! well not loose exactly but the slightest turn with the wrench and they were free. Would this cause the symptoms I explained? or shall I keep looking lol :whistling:

I would say so yes, imagen the force on the bolts with the engine on them and trying to steer

thanks dave, just wanted someone else's opinion :thumbup1: I'll still keep my eyes peeled for potential issues, but hopefully that was it!

I saw this thread and thought the same, I had the same issue with one wheel nut.... car had been in a garage recently for work on the front end, spanner monkey had started on a rear wheel before being told not to. I thought he tightened it up as I was watching but obviously not.

Heard a ticking/clicking weird noise though, when driving along stopped and sure enough one of them was finger tight! All the others ok though!

Just take your spare dolphin out the engine, that'll sort it straight away
