just wanted to share my experience with you all.....

was pulling out of a garage by me here, and just as i was going to pull out, i saw a red beemer, 318 i think, pull out sideways onto the road! so i thought, being the decent upstanding citizen that i am, that i better show him a real car. followed him down to the byass (a483) then soon as we hit the sliproad i FLEW past. and to be fair the guy gave me the thumbs up :-)

what was slightly worrying was that i didnt fly past quite as quickly as i thought i would lol. but at least the lad respected my authority lol :-)

just makes for a stronger case for getting the old girl on the dyno to see what shes really putting out :-)

1.8 well done! :punk:

:lol::lol::lol:

its always good showing up these lesser cars :thumbup1:

made me feel like a real man lol! im hard lol (not in the pants! behave)

theres far better ways to phrase that :sailor:

So depending on the age, you probably managed to just do a 1.9l 8v with 110bhp... rock on :D

maybe! cudda been a 316 lol

I remember once in my grey zed joining the M55, a V6 Vectra GSI next to me so as you might imagine feet were buried into carpet.

Much to my suprise the vectra didnt disapear backwards but stayed dead level. I had the windows down as it was a nice day, just as my zed was getting into her stride I heard. bp bp bp bp bp bp... rev limiter from the Vectra, appears he was in 3rd as I hadnt changed down from 4th... At that point the vectra disapeared backwards!

i think my vec gsi goes really well keeps up with the modern day hatchs but no match for zed. But there is no way my zed would pull on my gsi in 4th and the vec in 3rd, not at a rapid rate anyway.

my gsi is dynoed at 210hp and same lb/ft so maybe a gsi look alike. sri maybe 170hp??

also did you know that the vec was one of the most areo dynaminc cars of the 90's with a drag of 0.28 and the zed and the mac 1 drag is 0.32 lol!!!!

Your confusing the Vec with calibra matey, (listed under design http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Calibra)

Well not much different, vectra coupe = calibra! :D

Just because its based around the running gear of the vectra doesnt make the calibra a vectra. its named different for a reason - Marketing

Anyway, Calibra sounds better than Vectra when you talk to people :tt2:

Nope vectra as well matey

Amazing how they made the vectra more aerodynamic considering the front end doesn't actually look like it should be.

Though then again, with a zed's OEM front bumper hitting the air flat on. its no surprise it has less Aerodynamics. though 0.28 vs 0.32 cant really see that making much of a difference.

Just thought id start a debate about it. as aerodynamics of our cars don't usually pop up on the forum lol

Yeah its really metal isnt it. I said on the vec forum that the gsi cannot do 155mph and can only do 150 because its shaped like a brick.

Then they all gave me the facts  but when you take a good look at it, it is a very smooth car with clean lines and the front is rounded more than it looks :wack:

:

0.26 for the base model 8v Calibra

0.28-0.29 for the Vectra and rest of the calibra's

Impressive.

When you see a Coefficient of Drag (CD) listed for an entire model range, it will typically be for the base model of that range and the performance models will actually have a higher CD.

The 300zx had a CD of is 0.31-0.32 , which is pretty good for its age.

Although the more box-shape Z31 actually has a lower CD than the Z32, at 0.30

Performance cars often have a higher CD than non-performance models becuase of things like Wider tyres, aerodynamic wings and even improved engine cooling requirements.

In high performance vehicles reducing lift (increasing downforce) is often more important than reducing drag.

Dave the fountain of knowledge.

on the GSI there are also 2 little triangle covers that you fit under the bumper and you get a proven 4mph lol!!! so that would bring the drag down a little i surpose

The Calibra was a Cavalier not a vectra and they were pretty much identical except for the shell.

(yeah I know the cav was called the vectra in Europe but it's a cavalier to me dammit )

I have access to some tasty FEA (Finite element analysis) software, and if I get time I'd love to model the Z in it. The sort of software that F1 and Motorsport teams use for their cars. Its very time consuming though.

Would be able to simulate the aerodynamic affects of bodywork changes like bumpers, skirts, spoilers on the 300zx.

Also have a couple of wind tunnels. Unfortunatly one is for scaled models, and the other will only take single seater race cars. Any bigger and the tunnel walls would interfere with flow results.

I have to say I actually meant to say cavalier coupe! Was thinking about it and chuckling to my self on the motorway before. Vectra A :)

I would be very dissapointed if it beat you and would suggest Zedworld lmao!!!!! nahhh see what the RRday brings though mate, you will see exactly what its putting out then!! :D
