Hi all,

anyone know how many "average size" music albums (or single tracks) I could fit on a 4gb SD card?

I found a spare card with all my camera stuff and my car stereo has an SD card slot - so that could be a useful way of storing music!!

Thanks....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

average size for a music album on mp3 @ 128bit, is around 197meg. so quite a few matey.

1Gb is the same as 1024mb so 4Gb will be 4096mb. The number of songs that can be held really depends on how big (in megabytes) the song is. Some songs are only around 3mb while some larger songs are 6mb. I actually have songs that are 8mb but that's quite rare. So assuming the average song is around 6mb, a 4Gb mp3 or memory card can hold around 683 songs. But your songs are probably less than 6Gb so think of it as a minimum number of songs it can hold. I hope this helps. Enjoy your songs. :

^^That answer wasnt mine by the way, I googled it to make sure :smartass:

im glad you said that, because if you were a DJ, you definitely wouldn't say that 8meg songs are quite rare lol

Most extended club remix - tracks are around 8 to 10meg.

But it also depends on what bit rate they are ripped too. 128bit rate is a lot less in size than one of 192, or even 300 odd.

LOL - you're right there Daz!!

But thanks for the answers guys - over 600 tracks is pretty good for a tiny piece of plastic!! It kind of renders the in-dash CD changer irrelevant and will certainly free up glove compartment space if I ditch the CD case!!

Now I know what I'll be doing over the next few days......

Cheers!

Just checked the albums I have ripped from CD's on this PC and they vary from 126mb - 156mb for your usual 1 CD album with about a dozen tracks.

So about 25-30 albums, or 350-400 songs I reckon.

Edited by Yowser

just realised my albums seem to be ripped at 320 kpbs, which I think is overkill ? Must have used wrong setting at some point.

In which case mine are larger than they should be/need to be.
