Today I added a new skill to my skillset... Fitted a bonded windscreen.

I am pleased to report that its relatively easy!!

I just followed the advice given my my mate who supplies windscreens. I bought a tube of the correct sealant from him. Cleaned up the metal of old seal and also the screen. Did a trial position/fit and screwed a couple of self tappers on the bottom scuttle to take the weight while fitting/bonding.

The canister of seal came with a notched nozzle to ensure a nice thick bead of sealant comes out when put in the gun.

Did a bead all round. Then with help from a mate we lowered the glass on to the sealant using the self tappers to align and support the glass. A gentle press all the way round to ensure a 100% seal . Then walk away!!!

Job done.

A couple of hours later.. its gone off and fully bonded.

Buy a long handled stanley bladeholder made for the job at your local motorfactor,to cut at the bonding,it takes a while if youre trying to save the glass, dont force it,the sides and top are easiest from inside, down at the dash last is trickier. If you have someone to give you a hand, use a length of mig welding wire to 'saw' cut it top and sides, saves time, just avoid touching the edge of the glass with it.Remember, sods law,if you try not to crack it,you will,so just dont care to much when you start cutting :1eye:

I tried electric guitar string wire once, 12 gauge string, make a hole in the seal with a stan knife, feed the wire through, managed to get the top / drivers side and half way down the passenger side when the wire snagged slipped and cracked the glass, not that it mattered much the screen was already smashed on the drivers side, just wanted to see if I could do it lol

The proper wire is the way to go.

It is easy to snag on welds and various edges of metal.

Never done a zed screen, probably done 150+ odd various other car/comercial glass since i started,i never liked the glass cutting wire you can buy, always prefered the mig, doesnt snag so much.Geetarrr string would be too thick no doubt lol
