Hey Guys,

I am curious if there was a race between the two who would win. My mates for a type r and i have seen him beat m3's. So i wondering if anyones had any experience or thoughts???

He always keeps telling me that he would win, he pushing about 240 with some basic mods.

If it were a stock Type-R there would be no question; ZX all the way....

.....but a 240bhp one, who knows? But they are FWD and I reckon it would struggle to put down the power, not to mention torque steer, so even with the weight advantage it's a tough call.

As Hellraiser suggests, after 80 or so then the superior power and torque of a 300zx would probably give it the advantage.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

But then again most races are from stand still to about 70-80 :P, or the next red light lool :w00t:

i certainly wouldnt be beaten by a civic in a TT zed they are front wheel as said can put as much power as you want but aint gonna be able to transfer it to the road same as things like Focus if you wanna drag rear wheel drive or 4wd the only way

civic would win, things are el rapido. dont worry about the max hp figures, these things put down power in a ridiculous manner.

???? pfftt, you want get your zed looked at, my brother in law has a 16,000 mile civic type r 3 years old, (1hp more, more torque, and more low down power than the old civics) And my 21/22 year old zed whoops it from stand still.

I have a 200hp 2.2vtec prelude with some mods and i dont think its any where near the zed.

however..................... i am very addicted to the vtec... not sure what it is, but its sooo much fun. If i didnt have a zed then i would have most certainly bought a type R, cracking bullet proof fun.

the shape civic u mentioned is slower than the old type r, and that thing is fast as fuc*. pointless conversation until both cars are side by side.

na quick revving light hatch, vs heavy laggy 300zx..... i know where id put my money in a race.

you wanna sort out your O2 sensors your losing some serious power there if your getting beaten by civics next it will be corsas

dont agree tbh . cant see a type r beating a 300 especially if it has the basic mods and if it does id seriously check if the 300zx was in 100 percent condition.

I can answer this one ^_^ the 300zx no question. Pal has an EK9 stripped, caged light as hell with engine full of spoon/5zigen bits and thousands spent. It is NO WHERE NEAR as quick as the Z with boost jets and exhaust/intake.

*oh and he's bs'ing about pushing 240hp with basic mods. Going by 'max power' or 'suggested' power gains perhaps, but I've had a few done up vtecs / B and H series and the only one close was a H series with lots of mods at 230hp. To get much further costs much much moneys so I'm highly sceptical about the suggested power of his civic. No offense to him or that but definitely something I'd sooner see proof of before believing.

that kindda cleared it up for me :) Cheers!

Well he has does remap, full exhaust and intake and i think he has done a dyno too!

Only thing abt the 300zx is the petrol it uses is madness, were the type are uses half of it.

@Mid-wales-zx I know i have the i vtec on my accord type s and i love it :).

Dont get me wrong, round twisties those things are lethal - but then so are a lot of cars with the right set up and tyres. The 300 is also a fantastic car round the corners with good rubber but the weight upsets it compared to a little shoebox civic. But on a straight certainly after 60-70 it wouldn't stand a chance.

dont count on it. lots of tuned cars round these ways. many make 120 go by pretty easily.

The Civic is a chav shopping trolley, you always see them with 3 child seats in the back. Hateful cars. The 300 pushes out more torque on tickover

170 in a TT is not something that goes by easily 140 isnt even 'easily' achived, look on youtube for the RAF runs. as posted here.

dont worry about numbers, it how power is delivered, an nsx put out only 280-320 hp but yet that can whoop most cars, from porches to rs4's with 400odd hp..

these cars a very fast, and once revved they go amazingly well, the Z's really arent that fast. yes i like the z for what it is, but its hardly a drag monster. most tuned cars can see them off.

There's surely something wrong with your TT buddy? 140 takes abso f* all time in mine (about 350hp or so). Power delivery in a vtec is quite poor after 3rd gear. The tt is a massive lump of torque from the ground up which surges the speed up and it carries on pulling nicely until 6.5k in 5th then peters off a little. Don't get me wrong I've had about 12 hondas so far, all barring two were vtec's and some of them really nicely done up - they are great great cars and will see off most 'normal' hot hatches and performance saloons. My current lude outpaced a local 5.0 camaro from a 50mph roll-on to 130mph by a car length, but it's not a patch on what the TT does?

Same as mine.... I have even smoked a VX220's that was modified, the sod wouldn't even get out and have a chat, i think he went home to cry to be honest :punk:

Haha that is funny :P, well done Matt! Well have to say his z does looks very mean though!! :D

P.S Cheers for the favour again! ;)

you surely gotta have an NA to say that 140 isnt that fast to reach ? last year in portugal i was glued at 160 + mph on gps clocking ( private road of course ) to a bmw alpina b7 biturbo and a porsche carrera4s and the word to describe how it got there is only one ' QUICK' , sorry but i gotta agree with the above something must be wrong with your zed if you say up to 140 isnt quick .

my car is fine, been in many a z's, dont rate them grately speed wise. take a look at the 1/4 mile times. there really not that fast, even modified to over 400hp. there still in mid to high 13s....

really wish all these stories would stop getting posted about smoked this beat that, it really depends on the other driver and how much they try, how even the race was, how well driven, etc. too many variables, as for beating a vx220. i have no idea, as ive not experienced one, but i have been in a 270hp VXR, that i think would eat your z's up.

get down to santa pod gents. we can settle these queories properly, dont under estimate other people cars either, big mistake. power to weight and power delivary are EVERYTHING!

the shape civic u mentioned is slower than the old type r, and that thing is fast as fuc*. pointless conversation until both cars are side by side.

I thougth you were being sarcastic in your 1st post, but your actually serious.

Light and revvy it may be, but Vtec power deliver is waaay laggier than a TT Z. Its like a fitting a big turbocharger to a small engine. Plus its got bugger all torque.

A stock type-r is more comparable to a NA Z, one of the downsides to the NA - being a match for boyracer hatchbacks.

As for a 240hp one...if it can get traction then it would be close to a Stock TT at low speeds, but weight becomes less important as speed increases, and torque becomes more important.

As for a TT with typical mods, no contest.
