Hello everyone,

 

Need some advice to know I'm going the right direction.

 

The big end bearings on my Z gave up not long ago, so am replacing the engine with a good one. I'm looking to replace as much as I can on the replacement engine while it's out. The followings are the ones I can think of. Please please let me know if there is anything more that I should replace too.

 

Replacing the followings: -

• Timing belt
  
• Auxilary belts (all 3)
  
• Rear main seal
  
• PCV valves
  
• Thermostat
  

 

Engine and gearbox oil changes, spark plugs and all filters are obvious.

 

Anything else I shouldn't miss out?????????

 

Also, Mr F is the man for the list right???

Optional: water pump, tensioner pulleys. If you are taking the plenum off, then water bypass, EGR delete,plenum gasket, Rocker covers: exhaust covers dont have a gasket use liquid gasket or similar as they tend to be the culprits for oil leaks over a period of time, intake covers have rubber gaskets and half moons at the rear of the heads.

 

Speak to mike (Mr F)about your plans and he will advise you what you will need.

i would do the water pipes on teh back of teh block and pop the plenum off and do afew jobs under there be a waste to pull it in and out then find it drips on the over run or something equally niggly

Check the 2 metal stubs on the front (feed the top water pipe) usally corroded!

Maybe the knock sensor would be a good thing to replace while you have the motor out, as you can actually get to it ?

i would say knock sensor to while you have engine out! also turbo's refurb them or get them checked over and tested, guessing its a turbo! also check clutch and thrust bearing and silly things like engine mounts and anything that looks a f***er to get to with the engine in really

Thanks guys. I've noted it all down. Dropping engine in probably next weekend so want to change all the potential culprits on it.
