Hey guys, MOT retest in a week, only failed on wiper blades and a steering boot, got a new one but to fit do I have to remove the outer rod ball from the hub, or is it possible to twist em apart? I'll mark where I started from.

Cheers,

David

if you get the strechy type you can slip them over the track rod.if not then youll have to remove the track rod end..

Ah nm, spotted 'em on youtube, can you get em over here in the uk? for 300zx for example? Still gotta separate the track rod end from the hub of course, worried I'll tear the ball joint rubber

most car parts places will have them but take yours in so they can match the diameter/ length.lee

the company that make them is called bailcast

Anyone know the diameters/length so I can email bailcast? I only got a week left for free retest and one day to fit part

you might get away with undoing the nut, just to the top of the thread, and get yer hammer out or crow bar and try and crack it, the reasoning of the nut at the top is you wont damage the thread on the rod end as the nut protects it...

so just undo the nut pushing the hub out as far as possible then once it's undone use a hammer to split the outer/inner sections by tapping down on it? What about getting it back in line, same idea? Can someone confirm if this CAN definitely be done?

Ahem, last time I'm being cocky. just went to finish up and tighten up the castle nut - guess what nut has threaded, and it looks suspiciously like the threads on the ball joint nut are fubared too. Roll on another 60 quid for a replacement :'(
