Some of you may recall a week or so ago my Thread about my escort getting nicked.

Well it was found this monday in a carpark in solihull, about 40miles from home. The thieves obviously went for a joyride as they used a full tank of fuel and, as i set the trip counter after every refill, i know they did 330 miles in my car.

To get into it it looks like they bent the passenger door open, then bent it back to disguise their forced entry. They then broke the cowling from the steering column to gain access to the wiring. They put a self tapping screw in the ignition to release the steering lock then a kind of little black ignition box so they could start it with a screwdriver. Externally it is just as it was before.

The thing is, after having it nicked i'm not sure i even want it anymore. I'm buying the bits to sort it out, but i'm in two minds whether or not to sell it. I didnt report it to the insurance, because IMO with a car worth less than £500 its not worth it, all they would have done is write it off and i'd be lucky to get £100.

What would you do if your car was nicked and you got it back?

Why? If you bought it as a runaround what is the issue? It's not like you bought it to pose around in, it's more of a tool. You've not claimed on it, so fix it up and keep it for another few months/miles and buy a nice big chain to go between the steering wheel and seat adjuster ;)

Its hard to explain really, I know i bought it just as something to get around in but i just dont feel like i want it anymore. Just doesnt feel the same to drive when someone else has abused it.

Would it be wrong of me to leave it parked outside again, drain the brake fluid and wait for it to get nicked again just so i can catch the little......at the end of the road and laugh at their broken limbs?

I'm not a horrible person, but if they crash then i dont have to do the limb breaking :)

if it's making you feel uncomfortable and reminding you of the intrusion (i.e. having something of yours stolen)... then yes get rid of it and get something else.... or another one...

Its a good job your a thinker :p

In seriousness though, i wouldnt actually do that. but i would feel so much better if they did themselves a mischief in some other way.

I did think about leaving it to get nicked again though, and set up some sort of hidden camera somewhere to catch them. But tbh, i dont think the police care too much about stolen cars, especially old £500 bangers. But they do have more serious things to deal with i suppose, i know what my priorities would be if i was a copper.

If its just a runaround as you say and nothing special to you with the way you feel on it now, i would say get shut just give it what it needs and sell it

With how the country is currently going you would probably get done for invasion of privacy for putting a camera in.

So they stole a £500 escort from you? And you went looking for it?! Sounds like they tried to do you a favor! :D

Patch it up, throw it on fleabay.

Get something interesting!

it would bother me that maybe the thieving scum were laughing seeing me drive about in it and me not knowing who'd stolen it.Id fix it up and get rid.

Thats exactly it! Its just not the same anymore. :(

what if they did something wrong with the car ? like speed cameras/ filling up and not paying / robbery etc .. you never know with crazy people !! and since you didn't report it to anyone what proof have you got that it wasnt you?

the thing is .. they were crazy enough to rob your car , im just trying to imagine what they could've done.

i for sure wouldnt risk driving it again and i dont think id sell it either , why not break it for parts ?

best of luck with what you decide mate, i think you should've reported to the police just in case anything had happened .

no worries. I get what you mean though. I dont know what they did to or with it, part of the reason i dont want it now

Firstly Rob, I'm pleased you have it back - It does indeed just look like joy riders...!!

Secondly, as to whether I'd want it back afterwards - well that would depend on how easy it would be to replace it like for like.

For instance if my ZX got stolen and then recovered, what's the liklihood of me finding another low mileage rust free UK spec car this side of whenever? So whilst I would feel violated at the thought of what some scrote was doing to my car, maybe (just maybe) I could eventually put it out of my mind and accept it back after it was fully repaired to pre-theft condition. But that's how I feel about my ZX......

Your Escort looked a pretty clean and, most likely, unique example. However it was just a daily hack for you (if I'm not mistaken) and could just as easily be replaced with something else.

And you only had it 5 minutes, so it's not like you formed a bond with it as you might with your ZX. So if you can get it repaired easily and cheaply, then do so. Then continue using it as a daily hack to preserve your ZX - why go through the cost & aggro of looking for another car, selling the Escort etc etc......

Richard:flowers:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
