Hey guys

Im after a boost controller for my Zed, ive been looking about for one but to be fair i dont know what im looking at, dont worry someones fitting it for me.

Is there any in particular that people have had experience with that you would recommend?

Theres these ones on ebay but im not always too convince with half the stuff you find on there

I've had two different ones on two different Z,s. The blitz DSBC and the greddy project e01. Both top pieces of kit in my opinion. Recon the profec is the best for user interface because it has a decent screen for showing boost and other things. Think they're both dual solanoid though, which I believe means they can react and adjust the boost twice as quick as a single solanoid. I'm no expert but that's my opinions. Not a part I would want to do on the cheap. they do a very important job.

Cheers.

Danny

I'm running a Greddy Pro-fec B Spec II. Couldnt be any simpler to use. and it fits into

1/4 din slot where the stock clock should be :D

Thanks for the input guys. Just ordered myself a Greddy Pro-fec B Spec II as you suggested :D

So can these be used with a standard ECU with a view to upgrading later?

How easy are they to fit?

never knew that! think I'll get one then :thumbup1:

Greddy Profec B Spec II......... FTW

Perfect for the 300zx!!!!

Alz.

Thanks for that Mikey!

Hmmmkay! So would it need any extra hardware like BOVs, (already got a custom exhaust and am about to fit an aftermarket air cleaner. Cheers Big Jim!! ) or can I expect immediate performance gains by just plugging one of these bad boys in?

Apologies for the threadjack!!

You dont need BOV's. They only make people aware that you have turbo's when you change gear. They offer little (if any) performance boost..........oh god, im starting to sound like Funky! :sweatdrop:

Once you've fitted a boost controller, and set it up, you'll see an instant performance gain. Just dont up the boost too much.

Thought that'd be the case.

Thanks for confirming it!! ;)

Just need to add, as a 'noob', I'm fairly new to the whole Japanese/turbo'd/tuning thing, (I was, and still am to a certain degree, into older German N/A stuff. Carltons/Senators/Monzas etc.), and I'm very grateful for the constructive guidance and helpful advice I've found here.

Keep up the good work guys and I look forward to meeting some of the Scottish contingent at Knockhill on the 15th May.

(BTW, my buggy ain't exactly mint if you know what I mean!!)

I have a profec B spec II fitted to my car, I will be honest I've never been happy with it. Im sure its the way its set up but it does just seem a bit laggy when I have it switched on.

I was actually thinking about returning the "plumbing" and solenoids back to stock and seeing what it was like.

If I turn it of, it boosts to 0.6 bar is just lovely, progressive and consistant. With the EBC on, low is 0.5 (never understood why you want to turn it down??!) and 1.0 (ish, just less actually) if you plant your foot in first the solenoid is fairly slow to react so you get a "lunge" as its messing about trying to control the boost... very un-stock!

Is it easy for me to change between the original and aftermarket system (I didnt fit it) so I can compare and contrast?

I had the DSBC-R for a year or so which was a fine piece of kit, then I upgraded to a Profec E-01 which I love!

sound like its not set up or working right mate - a controller that is set up and working properly should give you a faster 'gain' (i.e. build up of boost) and a higher peak boost. my controller is currently 'offline' leaving me on stock boost. Running at 9.5psi is bad enough (when you're used to 18!) but it also takes slightly longer to reach 9.5 as well.

I bought an Apexi AVC-R as I heard and read they were supposed to be the ultimate piece of kit for boost control. Pretty expensive though! Yet to fit it to the zed but have seen good results from one fitted to an s14a - look pretty as well as you can have them displaying revs, boost, etc as a digital gauges. I plan to install mine in the spare DIN slot (with closing lid for stealth when the car is locked) under the radio but if you are planning a true stealth install you may be better off with an alternative as the AVC-R seems pretty big as boost controllers go.
