i have a really nice set of axis 19" rims, but the polished bit is scabby where i brillo paded it with some ajax before a cruise one night as i was late, this was about 3 years ago they now look skanky as anything so would sandblasting them and then priming and painting be the best way to get them looking really nice? there isnt much kerbing so painting is good enough, also could i get away with all this leaving the tires on?

on a refurb they sand blast alloys anyway and then powder coat them, so cant see why you wouldn't be able to do it your self if you had the equipment.

bring it back to life with a range of different sandpapers and a bucket of elbow grease... polished lip FTW :thumbup:

i aint got a problem with painting them but i really dont want to sit there sanding them, it would take ages, if sandblasting is proper then i will do it

what is this poder coating malarkey?

basically they electrically charge the alloy, put it in a room and spray a fine mist of paint powder particle's at it, then bake it in a oven. the powder particles melt forming a unified layer with out paint run or the need for sanding.

so then you dont paint it? thats it done?

lol yep back in the day when i had other things on my mind if u know what i mean lol

I,ve just had a set done , they bead blasted them and powder coated them apparently you can make a right mess of them with sand blasting as it can remove too much of the alloy , bead blasting is alot kinder on alloy !

These were in a bit of a state , they originally had stainless steel lip trims on and it,s these that caused alot of the corrosion so i got the grinder on them and removed them .

With the trims on

Without , you can see how much corrosion was under them :crying:

 

And finished , i like them without the trims , not that they can be replaced anyway .

This place advertises on ebay and charges £35+vat a rim .HTH

right, just been on the horn and my wheels are being sand blasted this week, woo hoo so when i get them back at the weekend i will paint them with brattlt cans and they are going to look like new, SWEET!

 

if anyone disagrees please say so i dont balls it up
