i hate jap belts on the doors and want to fit uk ones especially as i have just got a very spiffing uk interior which has the holes for the seatbelts in the rear quarter trim,

if humphrey sends me a set of uk belts will they bolt straight in? and it wont go anywhere the front doors?

anyone done this? and do uk doors still have that stupid bit that pokes up on the doors which is always in the bloomin way when the windows are down.

you'll have to make a hole in the upper trims and carpet but should bolt straight in, sure some geek will be along soon lol :online2long:

I have but since you dissed UK zeds and I own one. I'm not telling :tt2:

lol its only cos im jealous of ur seat belts

Im doing this now, just need to get the plates welded to the B pillar. The hole is there but no captive nut pre '92 IIRC, they are there on some if not all after '92.

The rear seatbelts fit fine with no extra work as all the holes/nust are there.

I bought some FIA approved seat belt plates, cut them down slightly, opened up the hole a bit in the B pillar to fit the captive nut, just need them welding now and im good to go.

You can get the UK top door cover which will cover the old seat belt hole and yes its part of the door structure lol

cheers barry. thats actually most helpful, so is there a threaded hole under the carpet in imports and also same behind the pillar trim, or would these threads only be there on uk ones? i wonder if i could fit my jap seatbelts there then

read grahams post above, might be a case of checking yours to see if they're threaded. and stop calling me barry you aren't my mother

lol i actually am

The lower threaded hole will be there, the top one wont. As groover has explained above.

I used FIA harness brackets, cut down to fit inside the B-pillar and weld tacked, to hold in place. Sort of tricky to get in place as you only have access to the inside of the b-pillar from the holes lower down.

nice one matey, why not just put a bolt and plate through? put the nut on the other end? im going outside now to take a goosey

How did you manage to get the plate that high up into the inside of the pillar?

Im getting mine welded to the outer skin with the captive nut recessed in the hole. It will bring it out a couple of mill for the plastic window cover, but i think i can work around that.

You will see why you cant when you have a look lol

If you pull the carpet back you will see a black round sticker over the hole for the mounting point for the bottom of the seatbelt and it does have a captive nut in place.

The only pain is the B pillar.

just out of curiosity why would you want to change, there is a better safety with the seat belt on the door. (well that's what i heard :P) not only that, tis easier to grab the belt to close the door with and you already have the belt in your hand lol

one reason is me and groover both have nice uk interior to go in

so can we use the original seatbelts still graham or we have to get uk ones? and these are all we need to fit them uk ones, the eye on the floor is under the sticker and the back uk belts bolt straight in with no problems

I have UK seat belts too, got them as a job lot front and rear. Im not sure if the door belt would work or not.

Most Jap belts no longer retract properly, there are some mods you can do to improve them but the UK belts seem a whole lot better.

Another reason, is when you try to open the passenger door, with a passenger in the seat, although very funny, they get strangled as you open the door

yep often a rack ripping sesh

:shock:This is news to me,i thought we all had to endure not being able to open the door without chaffing our necks or unclipping the belt first..I like the Fairlady being awkward, reminds me of driving an american car.

I also have a later interior to go in to my car that has door seat belts but I was thinking more about modifying the door card than moving the seat belt....anyone done this?

funny you should ask because i took the cover of the pillar and looked at where you would have to weld the plate to relocate the seatbelts and decided in the event of a serious accident that wouldnt be substantial, thats just my oppinion and my brothers who is a fireman on the road team,

so. i cut out the relevant parts of the door cards last night and fitted them today and its surprisingly simple and straightforward,

I suppose you just cut the hole out of the new doorcard and transfer the plastic surround to make it look original? Will be looking into this myself over the next week anyway hopefully
