Ok any decent legal types here, just popped out to grab some sugar. and when i reversing the car to turn it around, i bumped someone and put a small crease in their rear drivers side wheel arch.

Ive left my number, name reg plate and insurance details.

But in all fairness. the guy was parked on double yellows in a bloody black car, in a not too well light area, his car was also that small (pug 206) it didnt show up in my rear view mirrors. i see a silver one at out of the drivers side, and another silver one out of the passenger side. Ive taken a photo of his reg plate and also the wing area that clearly shows hes parked on double yellows.

Now there is no damage to my car as i wasn't going fast enough to even dent my bumper (around 2 mile an hour) but his has red paint and crease that looks like it will just "pop" out.

Anyone know where i stand on this and if its going to effect my insurance?

think i might just give up driving this year. doesnt seem like im having much luck with anything at the moment. :crying:

I would have just driven off then lol, but now youve left all your details, you just have to wait and see if the other driver persues it. Chances are he may not even be insured, so cant do anything, you never know.

ooh and him, he was in the car lol, though with the speed of our cars, i doubt he would of been able to get my plate before it went off into the distance.

But then I'm not like that bud. bad karma and all that. and to be honest, although I'm not superstitious, i can do with out bad luck.

Yes but if you didnt have bad luck, you would have no luck at all :lol:

Ill take no luck over bad luck any day of the week mate

Worse case scenario, you will have to pay your excess, if he contacts you.

If your excess is, say for example £250 ? He may call round and say, it is around £200 to fix ? Chancer ?? Give him the cash, get a signed document from him saying the matters settled, job done !

Bet you wont hear anything ?

Alan.............

You also need to notify the Police in case he disputes receiving the details. It happened to me once and the Police turned up at my door a week later stating that I had failed to stop at the scene of an accident and faliure to report an accident. The *******s took me to court over it and I got points and a fine. Thing is i did stop and left details but the **** never said he got them.

Fact is you need to tell your insurance company even if you left details. if you dont it falls into the above.

Does not matter where he was parked un fortunately, you caused the damage so it is a fault accident.

Even if he was parked illegally?

even if he was upside down singing queen songs, he was stationary, maybe he shouldnt have been there but the double yellows allow 10-15 mins unloading unless there is a little yellow mark that goes up the kerb onto a path then there is no waiting at all

if you argue the toss they will say "so if a child was standing on the double yellows and you kill him, then the child shouldnt have been there and its ok to do it"

a mate of a mate of a mate of a mate (heard it about 4th hand) got done and this is more or less wht they said to him

basically you moved from a stationary position and hit a stationary parked vehicle

sounds shit and it is but unfortunately that's the law

whats annoying is, if i was 3 inches to the left, i would just bumped his tyre and no damage, due to how low my car is. BUUUUTTTT noooo. it couldnt do that could it.

Seems strange, but I've only had slow speed impacts, and only since owning a zed, before then clean track record.

You only pay the excess in respect of damage to your own car mate. If a 3rd party claims against you then your insures pay the full 100% of his claim - it's law that every motorist is insured completely against any claim from another party.

Yup - that is true also Ian.....

......but at least you left your details. If someone hit my car and drove off, I'd be more pissed off mate.

And sorry to hear of your misfortune; your luck must surely change for the better now - especially after doing the right thing in this instance!

Update, she rang this just now, shes going to get a quote for the dent pull, cant see it being that much, the crease should pop out. so she doesnt lose her no claims bonus. but think ill also get a second opinion

just to confirm this happened in a car park not on road?

was it as tesco car park or similar ?

on the road mate, as i said, always seems to be low speed collisions as well. Hoping her quote she gets isnt rediculas, the dent would pop out with out the need to repaint as well.

I'm the same, although there was a junction about 50 meters away and i could of quite easily of just driven off with out the passenger gettin my reg, or even knowing what car it was. i know that had someone done that too mine, i would of been very pissed off. at least she cant say i didnt leave my details now, as she rang me on her house phone, in effect proving that i did.
