new problem, at idle sometimes the engine revs itself to over 1.3k then stays there, may drop every so on, and sometimes may not evn do it, what the hell is going on????

car isnt overheating. just to rule that out. and it does idle stabely... but at either standard, 800rpm or for some strange reason 1.3-1.5k rpm

Featured Replies

ECU temp sender or conections giving the wrong reading to the ecu. The ecu thinks the engine is over temp and increeces the revs to pump the water faster to cool the engine.

Remove the sender and clean the probe end also clean the conector and plug

The ecu sender is the yellow one on the water pipes.

Hope this helps:)

funny, i was messing with that very thing today.

im pretty sure when i had a bouncing rev problem it was a dirty /sticky idle valve and dodgy injector connecters . cant be sure now but jeff and jamie soon got it sorted

throttle idle control switch, clean the connector under the TPS (Part of the TPS)

Yep, had all of those. And it still does it occasionally!

I had the same problem some time ago, drove me mad,:taz: but I eventually solved it. The problem with mine was the 2 units responsible for high idle during warm up and the other is to raise the rpm when added load is registered, such as air conditioning etc'

I can not recall their correct names,:whistling: but they are located at the right hand side of the engine, (as viewed from the front) right at the back. One connector is yellow and the other is grey if memory serves my right.

My remedy was to clean both harness side and connector side of the connectors with pure acetone (clear nail polish remover) and she has idled perfect ever since.

Might be worth setting the base idle while the connectors are off also.

Hope this helps.
