Ha… I could not believe my ears this morning when I heard a report on the BBC news that:

“The increase in oil (petrol & diesel) prices was a good thing for some people.”

What a stupid thing to say!!!…. Of course the increase is good for some people, a very few, very rich people and the oil industry!

To everyone else all their living costs will increase higher that any pay rise they will get, not to mention the added weight of the duty (stealth tax) on these fuels.

The same stupid comment could be used on “any” price increases or even unjust actions…. “Someone always benefits”.

How that could be considered a news worthy item or even a wise thing to say on a supposedly unbiased program is beyond me.

If this is an example of the type of reporting that the BBC will now produce then I feel that I will have to start watching Sky news and campaigning for a reduction in the TV licensing fee (by the way another stealth tax) as I hardly feel that the public should be paying for a service that does the opposite to looking after their interests.

I agree, my commute is 60 miles a day and even though i'm tickling the throttle to get to work and back i'm still filling up with £60-70 a week, added to that i'm visiting the other half so this week alone i've put in nearly £140 in 10 days.

People might ask why i haven't moved nearer to work well the answer is that I can't afford to go in to a house alone to buy and the property prices in lutterworth are astronomical.

Either way the government are slowly pricing civilised living out of the equation

Prices for everything in the 14 years I've been driving have more than doubled.

Bread

Milk

Houses

Cars

Sweets

Shoes

etc etc etc (can think of anything that hasn't)

Petrol has only just caught up with everything else so I dont really see it as being over priced?

Wages have not caught up with everything costing more so of course it hurts, but I dont feel petrol stands out as something thats gone through the roof compared to every other thing we buy?

I might spend £2 a week on bread, so doesn't bother me that much. £60 of fuel used to cost £30, that bothers me!

You say that, but the monthly shop of £300 is now £600. Its all relevent.

Also it hasn't been as even here in the highlands, petrol is 1.42 a litre for low quality (93 oct), have to travel circa 30 miles to get 99 octane so there's further expense as it's not the same direction as my work for example. Food has gone up considerably in general, but whereas we used to just have a hugely overpriced coop, we now have a local tesco/lidl which has fought prices down massively from the coop (which somehow is still in business), so it's not that noticable. Houses have gone up for sure - but then that's not really comparable as it's a one-off purchase, and much like a car you may get a good bargain, you may pay the usual rate etc. Electricity bills have definitely gone up though that's a bummer. But fuel takes up a massive portion of my monthly earnings compared to what it used to.

it is good, keeps the poor off the roads, and gives us more room to play :-)

LOL... except that the price of everything else is related to the price of petrol!!!

and even though we already pay tax and tax on almost everything we buy we also pay tax on petrol (and a lot of it) so it's tax on tax on tax... etc....

14 years ago the price of unleaded was 59p .... so it's a bit more that double... again driving the cost of everything else we consume up!!!

not to mention just how much tax is on petrol.

i can't believe you don't understand that!

Not a very good post, but it does suggest what I think the government is trying to reach, only the rich will be able to afford to drive. It doesn't mean that if you own a Zed you are rich!!! So the "us" comment is rubbish. I am struggling at the moment, as I am sure a lot of people on the site will be...:w00t:

sorry bud. by poor, i ment folks that arent working. and live off our hard work.

appologies all round, no offence intended on anyones personal situation, but as said before those that own Z's know they cost lots to run and maintain, so its hardly a poor man/womans car.

But a major factor for the price increases you mention is Because of the fuel price increases , transport costs of everything is severly affected.

Plus many are resellable assets , unlike fuel.

Digging deeper hole,

I am not working and living off peoples hard work.....The fact that I cannot find an employer that will employ me with the disability I have is an issue. My disability is so unstable, I can spend weeks and weeks flat on my back not able to move, when my spine spasms, one of the last times this happened I was lying flat for 8 weeks.....lol, find me an employer that is willing to employ someone that this can happen to and I will happily go out to work...:tt2:

there will be people on here that haven't got a lot of money, but scrimp and scrape in order to own their Z, and why should people who don't have much money not be able to participate in this very worthwhile hobby?......:tt2:

Apology accepted though mate......lol :devil2:

everything else will rise in price, due to the cost of haulage, so when the petrol goes up, everything else does.

anyway ive just seen in coop that munchies chocolates at 80P Jebus.....

DAMM 300zx 666, your killing me :-(

you know what i meant, non looking for work individuals! please stop making me feel bad now, and not to attack your point, but ive always been taught to live via your means. for example not to get out a big loan/ finance deal on a porcshe or expensive car etc then struggle, but to buy the things you/I can afford, sure its less fun, but its also alot easier on wallet and self stress levels.

its more a case of the situation people put themselves in, then choose to moan, when quite easily with small scarifices they could be better off all round, yes there are exceptions to this, but thats just how i do things, each to their own fella.

and i wish you all the best with your health.

Cheers buddy, just messing with you mate, no offence meant as I am sure you meant no offence........:devil2:.......:tt2:

i can't believe you don't understand that!

What? LOL

Where did I say fuel costs dont relate to others?

I was making the point that everything else in the world has more than doubled in 14 years. Why should fuel be any different?

i can't believe you don't understand that! ;)

now now ladies! :)

Harry Hill style, 'this weeks petrol prices in a nut shell'...

It's far too fecking exspensive, it's a pi55 take.

the sad thing is taht people who hacve worked hard all their life or genuinly need the money and deserve it get shafted.

when my father in law had a stroke because he had always been self employed. and worked hard he only received statory sicjk pay... what???

what hacs me off is the career work dodgers. or immigrants who tell us how much they hate our country then take all the benifits in the world.

like that prick few weeks ago who ws fined 50 quid for burninga poppy over how much he disagrees and dislikes this country. and then laughs about his fine claiming its ok your paying it anyway im on benifits. he takes more in benifits than i earn! grrrrrrrr :cursing:

Totally agree buddy, if you have worked hard you get nothing, whilst others seem to get everything handed to them on a plate!!!

The price of petrol is definitely hurting far more than most other commodities due mainly to the fact that we consume so much of it. Why? For many, it's now an essential part of their life/livelihood, so doing without is simply not an option for the majority of people.

A simple example is commuting to work. Most people take work where they can and with the climate as it is, moving to another job or asking for more money is simply not an option. So they just have to absorb the rising cost of fuel, meaning that for a commute of 500 miles per week, with a car averaging 35mpg, they are paying out £86 per week. That equates to £4000 per annum. 4 years ago, they would have paid around £2500. The increase of £1,500 is significant for many people, but still cheaper and more convenient than moving, which would impact kid's schools, social life etc.

The problem however is that for one reason or another, fuel is going to get more and more expensive. Even in times of stability, governments are starting to heap more and more tax on to the base price, in an attempt to appear more 'green' etc. This is ridiculous of course but it's become normal practice around the whole world and unlikely to ever reverse.

The only alternative therefore are alternatives...which themselves are currently very expensive and not yet mature enough to be considered seriously by the masses.

Over the next few years, this issue is going to start to change our lives, for better or worse, so we will all have to be very creative and open-minded about what we are prepared to retain and what we will lose.

Tough times...but I love my Z!

dont worry when im grand emporer of europe... these things will be sorted! the way i see it the world is vastly over popultaed in any event............................:gun_bandana: on the spot common sense fines will be the new speeding tickets!
