March 8, 200223 yr Hey guys One for the more clued up of us all. The crank shells, someone mentioned to me they might be colour coded and in which case i should leave it the f*** alone!! is this true?? i can only see numbers on the backs of my shells? Cheers Latz
March 9, 200223 yr Latz, The crank bearings are numbered to suit the crankshaft journals. This is just a grading process and things like pistons also have similar numbering to suit each block. If you want to change them then these numbers are needed for reference. You can check the bearings for wear but as your engine is stripped down, you could opt for a nominal regrind of the crank with new matched bearings. Would probably cost you around £200. I had a tri-metal race bearings fitted in my Z although Nissan OEM bearings are more than adequate. Steve
