Further from my other thread it would seem my drivers side turbo seal is on its way out. So heres a few questions.....

 

1. Do I need to replace both tubs or just the goosed one?

2. Where is the best place to get re-con tubs?

3. How much am I looking at?

 

Would like to use the tubs off my old UK Zed but I have no way of knowing if they are ok.

If replacng a turbo/turbo seal, i would always either replace wth a new set of tubs, Z1 are offering some good deals on their range of turbos, or replace both tub seals/gaskets...etc so both are in top form.

You do not want to go down the road that you have recently been down, if you know what i mean....

Yeah I know what you mean mate. Looked at Z1 but dont think I can stretch to uprated tubs then get them fitted. Buying the new car has temp cleaned me out.

There s a rebuild kit on e-bay with 360 thrust bearings, looks cheap and maybe ok, if you can rebuild your own tubs matey.

bet your rite wazzed off, having only just bought your car, personally im staying away from tt's due to reading so many stories of them blowing up and suffering the same fate on my own car

Before buying new turbo's or parts to rebuild, i would deffo have the engine checked professionally to be sure that's what it definately is mate.

 

Should it be turbo, pretty sure Silverbullet (mark) rebuilds turbo's at reasonable money and certainly cheaper than mainstream companies.

 

He may have some old ones there he can do to rebuild on an exchange basis in order to save time, if going this route and saving cash, that would be my choice.

 

Yes definately do both if you can and check pressure of oil from block to turbo's is clear and as it should be before fitting the recon ones. (this could be why your in this situation now, it wasn't done!)

 

I would suggest to anyone looking at buying a zed with known smoke no matter how small that they allow for the worst being worn rings, hope for the best being PCV valves and if it turns out to be in the middle with knackered turbo, well it ain't too bad.

But anyone who is selling a Zed with smoke and says it's only PCV valves, tell them to fit the new valves before you bother to veiw, quite honestly why any one would not do this anyway in order to gain a sale, is beyond me!

Oh while your waiting to have the car checked, take of the 2 main throttle body intake pipes and look for large amounts of oil residue, open the throttle body butterfly and see if you can see oil inside the Plenum.

It all helps with the final diagnosis.

And what does it indicate if there is oil traces in the pipes?
