Self Diagnosis Data - Engine / Gearbox Management

My car hangs in 1st Gear for about 2 seconds before it gets second (93 uk spec autobox). I'm just getting into this issue, having sorted out several more major ones. Any of you know how to put the engine / gearbox management systems into blink codes, and/or got the technical data to work through this? Come to that ideas or suggestions also welcome - thanks in advance

Do you mean you get a sensation like a flat spot while the engine seems to falter before bringing in 2nd?

I had this on mine. I believe it was down to the temp sensor connections being a little corroded as it seems to have gone since I cleaned the connection contacts. With dirty contacts I think the ECU then thinks the engine is cold too long and the retardation to the timing it applies on a gear change to smooth it with too rich a mixture due to coldness leads to this 2 second hesitation before the auto goes to 2nd.

So check out the ecu temp sensor connections - thats the big sensor in your top water pipe. The other is for the temp guage.

Thanks Gents. Will investigate. Anybody out there got the full Autodata type info on the managements though e.g. is the throttle pot adjustable / what are the expected readings from the Coolant Temp Sender etc.

Happy to pay in kind or fact for inconvenience...

Thanks Gents. We can scrap this topic now - WillieO had it down to a T - corroded CTS plug! (My life is never normally that easy)

Still be interested in good autodata info, but no desperate hurry now.

Data is all in the online manual or maybe we can get you one on CD!
