So had a look tonight at work for a air lock found a litle one but nothing realy to wor about but i seem to be getting a foaming sort of froth comeing out insted

Any ideas please HELP

Sounds like you may have a few issues, the foam is most likely previous stop leak addative in the water, cool running could be a faulty thermostat or a locked viscous fan.

foaming sorta froth... hopefully not a warped head gasget cos you overheated after runing with a ruined hose therefore no or to low coolant level. but deffo hope not a cracked block or core plug due to (above or) running in the frozen weather. compression test straight away. check state of engine oil.

some one else needs to explain about water pumps tho.

ok well the fan seems to speed up if you diconect the wire from the sencer what would you sugest compleatly drain and flush then refill

when i had the leek it was only a cuple of days and watched the temp like a hawlk and did not see it over heating oh and it was only a small leek so kept it top up as such it was the top hose

Are you confusing lots of small bubbles with froth and before anyone says anything i know what i mean lol

well they are like watererd down saveing fom if that makes any sence why what did you experiance can you help i did think mabe a chenical reaction with difrent colents

help

OK can you tell us what colours you have? standard Nissan coolant is dark green and easily shows the brown corrosion. The foam is white? deffo no bubbles?

I bled my system with the bleed screw out altogether initially and could see the bubbles, as the engine temp rose and the water got hotter then the little bubbles of air were starting to come out of the bleed screw which looked foam like because they were so small, but not frothy.

You need to bleed the rad with the front end of the car slightly raised, so that any air from the matrix forwards can work its way out more easily and keep topping up and bleeding till you have no bubbles. It doesnt matter about over filling as the overflow will take care of it and dump it into the overflow tank.

The fan wont cut in anyway until really hot. You may as Jeff suggested have a faulty thermostat.

ok think we are all on the right track i think it was blue mobile i think and the bubbles are white.

groover when you bled your system did you leave the rad cap off or on and which bleed screw did you open and where is it sor to sound dum but the vg20 is new to me lol

oh and my viscus fan seem to run all the time and if it gets realy hot it runs a lot quicker

Thats working correctly then.

I had the rad cap on and the bleed screw is on the top of the rad toward the left, even topped up a little using a jug throught the bleed hole.

And its a VG30DE for N/A and VG30DETT with the snails on

turbee snails all the way so do we think it justs needs draining nissan coolent (green) and a good bleed

The cheapest and simplest option is to drain the system, replace coolant and bleed. See how you go from there, option 2 would be to change the thermostat and water pump then repeat option 1

so glad we dont think its head gasget or block trouble.. I did kinda quote worst case there.

I too am learning the Vg30 because of its age, but have many times seen other in-service engines that when minus more than say a litre of coolant just stir the coolant rather than circulate it. Thus the thermostat reads low but true, due to the coolant being static. ___there's hope for the thermostat yet!
