Coupe, for sure. Better looking and a better sports car.

The Cab is a purchased as a ****ers status symbol; everything that gives porsche owners a bad name.

If it was me, id go with the one that I wanted, not what others wanted me to drive, i wouldn't care about being a "status" symbol, after all i own a zed so, not much difference lol

If you can afford the maintenance, go with the one YOU want to drive. you can always sell it and get a different style one later if it doesnt work out.

What I meant by status symbol, is the difference between those that buy a car becuase they are a car enthusiast and choose it for the cars own merits and those that know nothing about cars or care about the actual car, they just buy to flash the cash.

Nothing like a typical Zed owner.

Absolutely fair point about buying the one you want, buy he wanted opinions on why we would choose one or the other.

a true 911 enthusiast would choose a 993 over a 996 ;) of course thats tongue in cheek as I have one... 996 are good cars, just research the RMS issue and know what to look out for. If you have any questions you can find me on 911uk.com with the same username or feel free to email me at dvitarana (at) gmail dot com.

Diddy p, ive had to edit your post, please read it for the explanation.

understood buddy! hope my other post is ok!

I too, would have a 993 over a 996.

Last of the air-cooled engines, best looking etc. The 996 is ok, granted - just not great. I'd have to have a coupe too. Not only for dynamic reasons, but also for security too. The targa versions are supposed to be the best comprimise and have a wonderful panoramic glass roof a la Peugot 407 SW or whatever..

To me a porsche should be about one thing and one thing only - driver involvement. If you're buying a porsche to be seen in, then.. well, you know what you should do - :hang:

So coupe all they way - preferably a wide bodied 993 carrera 2!

indeed a 993 c2s is a very nice car.

i have a 993 c4 varioram cab, new 4s/2s (m033) shocks and springs from porsche, and turbo f&R ARBs, along with all new bushes... beleive me driving in the summer on nice winding roads, hood down, listening to the RSR exhaust is a real hoot. i've driven a fair few 993's and the cab isnt really much different despite what some might say, and with my suspension mods, it is a real delight... looks though are a matter of opinion.

porsche's arent all that bad u know, although i'd like to get a 99-spec z32 TT one day to rejoin the stable after my last zed's death in 2007.

Don't worry matey, i understood what you meant :D, and opinions are always a good point when deciding what you want.

equivelant enthusiasts on the porsche side are found at 911uk.com ... just dont mention the nissan gtr ;)

I think you should go for the cab so we can all point and laugh at you :lol:

Would have to be the Coupe :cool3:

Buy the one you like as you will have to live with it.

Merc SL for me all the way. The most beautiful affordable roadster on the road IMHO.

agreed great cars, but a bit chalk and cheese. my brother's in the trade and has had a few R230 SL500s, great cars - personally i love them but in terms of driving, you can feel somewhat detatched. now i dont mean that in a negative way, there are times when you dont want to feel too attached to the driving experience and you want a fast, well built, good looking (maybe open top) cruiser, then the SL it is.

the porsche on the other hand is more about the driving experience.

it all depends on what you're after! just drive as many cars that fit your requirements and budget and you will find the right car for you.

BUT... 993 FTW! They are classics and have bottommed out and if anything will appreciate, have great engine, handling and timeless looks... SL would just continue to depreciate and rust like most recent mercs do... just ask paul c!

Guys some great comments there, alas the coupe does look good especially the c4s 996 and if I had the dough I would deffinetaly have a 993 turbo as a classic to keep, what I liked was a 996 with the new 997 front bumper, and I did fancy the roof down as a real poser lol, ill have another look at the coups especially the targas, ill keep you all informed, p.s I'm definetly keeping the zed though lol

997 is the way to go, if you can strech the money, much better drive than the 996. I was in Porche Reading the other week as I have not decided which way to go yet. The CLK55 is fav at the moment but I still fancy a late 348 or early 355, but those are in the 30k bracket. I dont know if I could bring myself to spend that much money on a car.

I agree 997 but a little outside my price bracket, I also like the sl55, and the 355 and 360 are in the mid 30 damn shame 355 spyder ofcourse ;-)
