Ok, I thought I would start a new thread as I`m still having a problem with my lights.

so.... my headlights are just switching to full beam and I`ve got no sidelights.. I`ve checked all the footwell fuses(all ok now) and I`ve swapped all the relays over from my (working)TT and its still the same :helpsmilie:

So my question is where should i start looking now? i assume its an earth fault so where do the wires run that i need to check?, over the last few months i have moved my under bonnet main fuse box and done it properly and soldered and shrunk wrapped the cables that needed cutting and recently i`ve fitted a new stereo. so could any of these have made the problem?

any help is appreciated as i cant use my car at night :scared:

have you checked the fuse in the engine bay box? had problem with mines a while back it was the 10amp fuse in there.

dan.

both sides? because on the zed each headlight is on a separate feed. sounds strange but are you sure you havent just blown all the bulbs in one go due to your dodgy wiring

You might have a wire wrong somewhere from when you moved the fuse box.

Do you mean the one by the front of the car or the one near the brake fluid pot? coz Ive not checked the one by the pot! and checked all the little fuses in the front main box

yeh no side lights or hids at all, both main beams are illuminating though! I can hear a clicking when I turn the switch :winkiss:

Are the rear side lights working or not?

Jeff

No Jeff ? brakes and indicators are working though :sweatdrop:

If you have taken a feed from your light circuit to illuminate something extra you have put in, with me it is everything but a few weeks back I was working in the rain and the drivers side blue illuminated from Graham window switch must of got wet, shorted and blew the 10 amp footwell fuse, causing like you blue light on dash and the main beam cut in.

Mended it of course and all is well again :thumbup1:

Check items that take a light feed perhaps.

You must be frustrated from spending all your time plucking on your back by the gas pedal

Ahh the Southport roads will be a safer place

If you don't have any joy by the weekend I don't mind popping round and having a look.

No probs mate. Do you have a multimeter?? You could see if power is getting to the relays and work back. Print off the circuit diagram from the online manual to refer to.

CheerZ, Yes I have a multi meter but havent a clue how to work it :blushing:, I can hear the relay clicking though, well at least i think its the relay :sweatdrop:, will print the diagram out mate, good idea, thanks

If the relay is clicking when flicking the switch then you know the switching side of the cirucit is working. So the problem must lie with the high current feed to the lights that the relay is controlling. The circuit diagram should show you where is orginates and fuses/connections in line. It's just a process of elimination. :detective:

the 10A fuse in the footwell (check it again) feeds the switch on the pod, which in turn splits to feed many things - rear lights , interior lights, dash lights? , side lights, and the feed to the relay that selects dipped / main beam (default is main beam)

if all the above lights are out then it really indicates the fault to be either that fuse or the switch on the control pod (are all the plugs in it properly? have you got a spare pod to swap out?

once youve tried all that move on to the 3 relays in the engine bay

1 relay switches on left headlights, 1 relay switches on right headlights (both of these work as you get both full beams. 3rd relay (black?) towards the front of the fuse box is the one that switches between dipped and main beam

You know what!!!!, you`ve just clicked a thought process in my head!!!!! I changed my pod a while ago for an better cosmeticly pleasing one and the fella said it may be faulty?, but when i fitted it it wasnt, maybee its fault has returned!!! hope so, i`m off to check, cheerZ Ian :tt1:

I`m gonna check all the relays/fuses again in the morning and check everything twice, thanks for you help

Daz.

It won't be the pod if the relay is clicking. If the relay is operating when the switch is flicked then the pod side of it is fine and you need to look to the high current side of the circuit.

yeh thought that, I`ve printed the diagram out, it looks like a twisty road map around the world 10 times!!!! holy cow!!! :sweatdrop:

gonna have another play 2morra

With the lights switched on (but alas not on) have a fiddle with your "new" fuse box setup moving it and the wires about just to see if theres an obvious dodgy solder joint or bad connection. You may just see the lights flicker on and know your going in the right direction.
