electric fan just for air con?

as above, is the electric fan seen here

just for the air con, or does it cool the engine too? as my air con dosent work i was going to do away with it eventually. but do i need to put the electric fan back in now? cheers :-)

    its the auxillary fan . kicks in on high engine temp . keep it there as a safe guard .
