Can someone help!

I've finally got round to replacing the standard head unit in my UK spec (1993) TT. I bought an interface wiring harness to avoid any "cut and shuts" (also means I can put the old unit back in if ever I sell up.........

All seemd well when I fired up the new stereo (Sony M700R) until I checked out the (standard, crap, O.E) rear speakers - no sound at all. I ran a separate wire from the the resr output of the head unit to another speaker I had and this worked fine (i.e. nothing wrong with the stereo itself). So I checked the harness and found something a bit wierd........

The "Power Pax" interface harness has a 6 way plug with 4 pins in it for the Rear speakers (Left, Right, plos and neg). Makes sense to me. However, the ZX side harness it plugs into actually has 5 pins in it. Checking the diagram on the original Clarion head unit indicates that it is a "RR SP Amp" pin. Any ideas what this means? In desperation, I wired this pin to +12V and all this did was stop the front speakers working as well.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get these rear speakers working!?!?!?!?!

Cheers!

Hi Dem,

First of all, good idea getting a wiring loom, they can save hours of work & I'd recommend anybody changing their head unit to get one!

I had the same problem with my rears- they are powered by a separate amp in the back of the car (by the ABS sensor).

To get round this, I ran some new cable from the head unit to the rear speakers (by-passing the small, round Clarion amp).

Hope this helps.

Dave

Dave,

Thanks for the reply - guessed it might be something stupid like that. How can an amplified system sound so crap?!?!?!

Anyway, I'll be running RCA / power leads to the back of the car for the new amp / subs, so a a few speaker wires won't hurt!!

Appreciate your help.

Cheers,

Damian.
