As some of you will know I have thus far concentrated on getting my Slicktop looking good, smoothed, resprayed etc. I have also had a complete overhaul on the handling side of things. MeisterR coilovers, adjustable arms all round, hicas lockout(DW) and polybushed rear.

Now it's time to start on the engine!! I have just covered 3000miles so was going to book her in for an oil change and basic health check.

I am after some considered and knowledgable advice/suggestions on how best to approach improving performance. I am a complete mechanical numpty so will be getting all the work done by specialists.

I still have to arrange the fitting of my manual conversion so I am on limited funds but if you guys could give me your advice it would be greatly appreciated. Obviously I would purchase a suitable clutch for any likely mods to be fitted when converting to manual.

Thanks for any input in advance.

is the engine running completely standard at the moment Daffy? Id start with a air filter and Apexi always seem to come out tops in that area so look at sourcing a Apexi cone they go for around £70

I fitted a blitz sus a few weeks ago, apart from that it is standard. Has a quality aftermarket exhaust and that's it thus far.

ok how about a boost controller? will be able to increase boost to a safe 14psi then when needed. Its worth keeping eye out for uprated intercoolers as well they pop up every 4 months or so. But then its onto bigger injectors, tuned Ecu would be a good start as well to make the best use of what you already have

Leave it alone.

Get the manwell kit fitted.

Is a tuned ECU the same thing as a chip upgrade? :confused1:

All in hand Pete. Just want to make sure I get the right clutch. It's not like i've had long to sort it :cool3:

yeah pretty much as long as the chip has been designed for the car and properly tuned instead of just a set from another car used as in replacing the ecu with a upgraded one.

I'm shocked. A genuine question with regards to upping horsepower on a TT Zed and so little response?! Surely some of you must have been down this road and have some advice. Thanks Marty for your replies. Say I had a budget of 750quid post manual conversion would that help?

boost controller, ECU remapped, one piece prop :) could up the injectors to 555cc as well thats kind of the next moves then intercoolers, turbos and full engine rebuild :) id fit a one piece prop with your conversion though iirc £250ish

buy marty's Mine's ECU, when I fitted my ARC 'coolers it made a hell of a difference. Focus attention on getting maximum air to them, AND out the back of them otherwise you're missing out! ditch any additional weight that you dont need, thats free power for you :thumbup1:

you kept that sale quiet.. you had it last week lol

yeah i realised i sold it a while ago with a load of other stuff. I do have a garage full of other top parts though :)

Yeh pretty much as the lads above said Daffy, deffo manual conversion!! huge difference! then apexi cone filter(or similar) de-cat, stainless exhaust, (branded)chipped ECU and a boost controller, with all these items/mods set up correctly on a tidy engine, you will not belive the difference!!! i have all this on my TT and its ballistic!!!

after that it will be forged internals and uprated fuel pumps, injectors but thats the serious money time, so just go with the above 1st and then make you mind up after if you need more, oh and dont forget good brakes!!! 1st thing really

Daz.

personally Daffy, i would keep the engine stock for now, just well maintained. get the conversion done then sort the brakes out, once you're used to the manual box and she stops good and propper then, up the boost ;)

Thanks Mark. I have already tried to tell him.... Maybe he will listen to you:whistling:

Thanks guys. My thinking was brakes next. Post manual conversion obviously. Just getting a bit ahead of myself I guess. As I've discussed with Mark i'm pretty sensible unfortunately.

Get it handling right (done) and stopping right then up the horses when funds allow.

Not long now Pete, met up with Mark yesterday. When it's fitted mine and Bob's slicktops will be very very loosely related :tongue_smilie: Can't wait to get it done now. :thumbup1:

Sensible me feels a well sorted standard engined manual slicktop is more than enough for now. Just in time for the better weather too.

Brakes is a must matey. A standard 300 could do with an upgraded braking system, gets you into the turns quicker.....lol.

As said here before..... Air filter, free flowing exhaust, chipped ecu, uprated smic's, larger injectors, lightened prop, weight saving, forged internals, bigger tubs, ring jimmer, get a loan, divorce the wife, think your 18 again, you become a chav, remortgage the house, car gets scrapped, you end up on the streets...........

Welcome to the 300zx community......lol..... LOVE IT!!!

I could just get some neons and try and mod an escort cossie 'whale tail' to make it look faster lol.

On the look out for brakes as we speak Al. Like the sound of your £400 option on the other thread.

I was looking for approx 6 months to find a set of EVO VIII calipers, got them in the end for £145 delivered!!!!

Keep an eye on e-bay matey, they go quite cheap sometimes.

Alz.

saw this car in the flesh on Thursday... very, very tidy. The pics don't really do it justice.

ps - I'll bring that bumper to Andys tommorow mate, just trying to get a paint code. :thumbup1:

Cheers Paul, thanks for the kind words :cool3: Always nice when others appreciate the effort that's gone into it so far. Good to meet you and i'm sure we'll have a few more beers soon.

EDIT: Yeah, cool. We are aiming to be over at about half 9. But thinking that might be a bit early for you guys?

I'm gonna try and get there for about 9.30 - 10am. I could drop it round Marks place so you can grab it as and when is convenient as i assume you will be going to see him in the nearish future?
