Accident damage can be difficult to call sometimes and dismantling to check behind panels is sometimes inevitable but when you look at the front bumper in the firsts picture you could be forgiven for thinking the damage would be mainly bumper related.

However from previous experience it seemed prudent to remove the damaged panels to look closer, and as suspected the amount of damage behind the bumper was extensive.

So much undoing and removing of parts Jamie ended up with a small pile of bits.

Rear damage to the bumper.

All is revealed, even the afm and air box has been damaged

The impact has rippled though the headlight bowl and disturbed the bottom section with some area's bent down and some bent up.

headlightbowl.jpg

The impact had gone further still twisting the near side slam panel, the entire headlight bowl and upright has moved back and up.

With some damage to the rear also the repair is going to take a little time, assuming we get the go ahead ( distmanted for insurance quote ) I will post the various steps to this as we go.

Do not underestimate small impacts.

Pretty similar to my damage when i hit the deer in 2010, but not as much. I dressed the distorted headlight pan back to profile using templates from the opposite side, and luckily my slam panel was fine.

Great write up Jeff, but why has Jamie got his eyes blacked out?!?

Al.

only people who have no clue about salvage vehicles would think that its just a bumper ive seen cars for sale that mates have said it looks nothing, its not the comsetic panels that are the probs, its everything behind that is gonna be the costly time consuming bit

there are so many things behind, a bumper these days are simply comsetic

Insurance company could possibly write that off!!!!

Just as well you can wave magic and have a shed loads of spare parts :2guns:

smithy

Thanks for that Jeff - it just shows what could easily be hidden by just replacing the bumper!!

I reckon this is something that new ZX buyers should be made aware of!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

That car looks familiar...

Good to see it's in safe hands! Just hope the insurance cough up a decent amount if they write it off.
