Hi guys, where can I get a new starter motor for the z32 tt?

It's a manual if that makes any odds.

Do Nissan still sell them, and if so, does anybody know the part no?

Thanks

I have a start motor it came off a auto so not sure if it will fit a manual but can't really see there being any difference unless the start gear is different?

Auto, Manual, NA, TT - All the same starter.

MJP (in traders section) if you want new, but readily available used.

The starter teeth aren't pushing forward and engaging with the fly reliably so keeping to basics it's gotta be the flywheel or the starter motor surely?

Basically, especially in cold weather, on key turn the relay clicks, the starter spins up, but doesn't engage with flywheel and turn the engine, at most I'll get a slight attempt at a turn. Sometimes takes over 10-12 goes before it engages. Then as if by chance it engages and boom engine turns over a charm. But this plays hell with my batteries and fcks them in no time.

starter motor then ive had this problem before. Second hand around £35 new probably talking over £200. For the time it takes to change id always get second hand due to the cost difference and it could last you for years to come for £35 :)

Yeah looks to be 250-300 quid new. But then to be honest, a new one WILL last for years and years. I could buy 3 second hand ones and have the same problem on each, after all - unless its a smashed car, they are probably second hand because they are duff ;)

i had a second hand one on for 2 years and no problems :) i know which i would rather get as its something that could just fail even if it is brand new. You would get your warranty but after that who knows how long it could last

Just had a chat with Mike from MJP, very nice guy.. price is 280, which is steep, but will be worth it for the peace of mind. Going to go out today, jack her up and take off the starter motor and turn the motor to double check the guide ring isn't shagged on the wheel - and if not new starter it is :D

A lot of second hand ones come off of working cars that are being broken for various body related problems, its the reason i have one spare, the starter is working perfectly, it was body work reasons i broke the breaker.

I havent seen many issues with the starter as its quite a robust piece of equipment and doesn't get used alot.

Also, 3 old starter motors still only comes to £90 to £100, which is still far cheaper than a new one. the likely hood your going to actually go through 3 starter motors is highly unlikely unless its not fitted correctly in the first place.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do. I'm just saying that the reason most starters are second hand, is because people break there cars for a multitude of other reasons so have them available.

I have seen far more engine and turbo / gear box related "help" threads than starter motor ones, mainly due to the high reliability.

I hope my bit of info for you helps you decide. personally id go for a second hand one, id only buy brand new if i was trying to restore the whole car to its original glory and a second hand one wasn't available.

Good luck matey

Ditto mate, Jeff breaks around half a dozen Zeds at atime and generally because of knackered bodywork or engine and bodywork.

Second hand starter on mine 8 years ago, still the same one :-)

smithy

the solenoid is possibly goosed, or on it's way out, but could just be the bendix (the solenoid engages the worm gear that throws the cog out to engage the flywheel) may just need a good clean up, overhaul and grease, that's what I would do first, but I am a tight ******* :)

Well if you're certain yours is working spot on I'll take it. How much are you looking for? My email is dlongmu@hotmail.com :)

LOL! even with the poor values of zeds now days I dont suppose many owners have scrapped them just because of a knackered starter motor!!

i dunno mate, baz will use any excuse

Its not difficult to check a starter motor "on the bench"

IMO its equally likely that you have worn teeth on your ring gear as any one engine always comes to rest in approx the same spot. (90% of the ring gear will be perfect. 10% will be fubared)

Have you taken a look at the starter yet? Its quite common for the mounting bolts to work loose (and strip the thread, or snap the top mounting point off), causing intermittent engagement issues.
