Anyone heard of this one.... Got a 1991 Import Zed TT, the engine is near enough standard apart from a few bits (HKS filter etc etc). When I accelerate hard in third, then change into fourth, it grinds like a bastard!! I've been advised by a couple of people it may be the syncro?? Any ideas?? The clutch was replaced about 8 months ago.

 

Yup, it's the synchro.

It might be worth a try to put in some high quality gearbox-oil...it sometimes helps.

If it bothers you a lot and the oil doesn't work, start looking for a (used) gearbox, since repair is going to cost just as much.

Cheers for that, how much am I looking at for a repair/or used gearbox, and is fitting 10 times as much!!??

 

I may as well try the oil first. Anything you recommmend??

 

this is a common problem as well, so dont take it personally.. ;)

 

if the oil works for you, let us all know, and maybe some of us with the same problem might be tempted to do something about it, rather than change gear slower...

 

The oil you can try is Redline MT-90 or if you're desperate try the Redline MTL.

This last one is very aggressive and will *eat* your synchros (litteraly), so use it for a couple of thousend Miles and then switch to MT-90 or another good quality 75W90 (GL4)

I have this excact same problem - let us all know how the oil works... PLEASE!!!

I just change gear a bit slower. Saying that, if you're screwing it, and you're changing into fourth, you must be on a private track!!! Over 100 in third......
