That the GT-R is an awesome machine has never been in doubt, and as a life-long Nissan fan, I've always been very proud of it.

The looks however have always disappointed for a car of this stature, especially in photos. Seen a few on the road, and they are certainly far more impressive.

This weekend however, I happened to be in West Way Nissan in Aldershot and got the oppoerutnity to look at one very, very close.

It was the new 2011 model and I have to say that up close and personal, I was incredibly impressed.

It's big; much bigger than you would imagine. The build and finish is also outstanding and easily as good as anything you will see from Porsche. In fact, the model on display, in a black metallic colour, oozed quality and I have to admit looked simply awesome. On top of that, each component and part looked like a piece of jewelery...stunning.

Even my wife liked it...

[bTW, they had at least 5-6 more used samples stood outside, as well as a dearth of 370 hardtops and cabriolets. The hardtop continues to disappoint me, however the soft top looks very nice.]

gtr's are great, the raw power and speed of mine always put a big grin on my face every time. i will get one again cause they are that good, and the new ones must be seen in the flesh to get them

there were loads at JAE last year, and i have to say there prowess is just something awe-inspiring, i think they got the look spot on to be honest, it has a very aggressive look and stance on the monster alloys.

I love it.

I saw one shortly after they'd come out in the UK in the flesh and have to say it was very very impressive - it certainly warrants the £50k price tag looking closer at the amount of detail that's gone into everything. It's a work of art!

I sorely regret selling mine and to that end I am viewing one on Friday. The most awesome car I have ever owned.

However, the paint job was shite LOL. Had to get it detailed because of the orange peel finish. I believe the new ones are much better.

I like them but it's still a bit to 'Nissan' and plasticy for my liking. I could never compare one to a Porshe's finish..that's for sure.

Still...brilliant car but not sure I'd be happy parting with that much cash for a car that I believe has an interior (aside from the new fangled electronics) that is as sexy as my m1 micra from back in the day!!

No offence intended...

I will own a R35 one day, just waiting for the prices top drop a little more and then sell my zed collection, Awesome vehicles, I`ve had the rare oppurtunity to see a 300zx and R35 side by side in a members garage and I`m sorry to say it make`s the 300zx look pants! and I though i would never say that, LOVE them :tt1:

I can't speak for the pre-facelifted model but I sat in the 2011 model and I have to say the interior quality was fantastic. Everyone has their own opinion and standards of course, but having owned a string of Mercs (and Micras!), I have to say the quality both inside and outside was far superior.

The fit and finish of Japanese cars has always been far better than their European counterparts, so that shouldn't really be a surprise...even a Micra has far narrower and better panel fits than most Mercs and BMWs.

Would I spend £70-80k on a new GT-R? That's a good question, and unless you have that in your pocket to spend, probably an academic one.

If it was me, it would be a Ferrari...simply an emotional decision.

This is its problem, spec wise theres nothing to touch it but if you have say 70k burning a hole in your pocket would you buy a Ferrari 360, lambo gallardo, audi R8, porsche 911 turbo or a nissan gtr!?

Thats always going to be its issue and even though i love them and have driven a couple i dont know if i had that kind of money that i would buy one, yes that makes me a snob but if i was gonna spend 70k on a car then yeah i would be a snob lol

But saying that they have now dropped below the £40k mark and i would guess by the end of the year the R35 and R34 will be similar prices!! and for £30k there will be nothing on the road that could touch it

This is a really funny conversation for me. My Managing Director has one, and he wants to borrow the Z! LMFAO

I wouldn't say no to a spin in the GTR, but if I was going to buy one for tens of thousands, I'd go for an R34 in Midnight Purple any day, or if I was looking at under £10K then an R32 in Gun Metal again. I do miss my GTR, and the missus keeps threatening to take the Z off me once it's finished, she says "Well you want another GTR, what do you need the Z for?" lol

this is what i like about, its a "nissan" look at the top gear chart and the GTR is above all those and when you do beat them you can get out and say to them "its only a nissan"

I did one of those gift voucher experiences in one. It was simply superb. I was fortunate enough that the instructor allowed me to have a bit of a play with it.

Very balanced, very sharp to turn, even on a wet track. A huge grin factor.

I was so impressed I am constantly watching used prices tumbling, until the time I can get one.

Roll on 25k

Yeah I'm still waiting for decent R34s to come below £30K, you'll be waiting a while.
