I spent a couple of hours over the weekend doing the sills and rear arches with Dynax cavity wax. It's really easy to do and well worth it in my opinion, especially as I use my car daily through the winter.

 

I got 2 cans of Dynax off the Bilt Hamber website, each comes with its own length of plastic tubing and nozzle. I removed the rear seat and rear quarter panels and also peeled the carpet back a bit, near the side of the front seats as in the pictures. I joinined the two lengths of tube together and accessed the sills from the holes in rear quarter and half way along the sill. I was able to reach the full length of the sills and the rear arches, as proven by the nice puddles on my drive in the two pictures! Its really easy to use and flows brilliantly even though it was only 10 degrees.

 

It was nice to find the sills are still in perfect condition on the inside.:D

 

Hopefully by doing this and keeping the underseal in good condition, my Z will stay rust free for a few years!

I've never seen cars rust so bad as ones people have treated so as not to rust.

best time to do rust proofing is in the baking hot heat where moisture isn't going to get trapped between your rust proofing and the body work.

 

You need a perfectly dry car as well, you have to remember rust proofing is designed to stop water getting in or out. so works both ways, if you have cold damp metal and you apply your rust proofing you are basically setting a breading ground up for the rust worm, by trapping the water between the metal and the protection layer :(

To be fair, it did seem dry to me. It was a sunny day and the sun was directly on the car. On the manufacturers website they say it can be applied to damp surfaces, as it displaces moisture.

A good rust proofer should displace moisture, but think of it like this, it can only displace moisture when the moisture has somewhere to go. other wise it will get trapped under it.

 

Take a ball and place it on the table, and get some tin foil, now the ball is a water droplet and the tin foil is your rust proof, if you just come along and plaster the area with tinfoil, all your going to do is cover the ball. same principle.

The areas you have treated WILL stay rust free for a long time. Fact

Good job... Well worth doing. If the cars had been treated like that on the production line then Arches and sills rusting through from the inside would be a rare occurrence.

Yep i agree, the bilt hamber stuff is top notch. It`s not your everyday cavity wax. The hydrate 80 stuff for surface rust is great too.
