ignition timing

IGNITION TIMING..............

checked mine today 19 degrees BTDC, veilside ECU fitted. i think this is why mine was detonating when running 12 psi of boost, it would only run 10 to 11 psi without detonation. i have now reset it to 14 degrees. will try to put in smaller boost jets if i can sort out my high idle problem.

TPS.....................

mine has also started to run fast idle 1800rpm never dropping back any lower.

done a voltage check today, running 9.73v when turning clockwise it goes to 13.08v no in between, turned off engine switched ignition to on so lights lit on dash but not running, loosened screws moved fully in both directions 9.71v lowest reading and 13.08.v highest, there is no gradual increase from 9 to 13 either, it is one or the other

i took reading by pushing live into tps middle wire just before black box, and black to earth. using a digi meter

my tps only has two wires going into it is this normal.

northern monkey have you sorted yours out yet

Tony,

The timing should be 15 deg BTDC at tickover on a warm engine. A cold engine or higher tickover and the ECU will alter the timing.

Not sure what's going on with your TPS, I thought they only received about 5v. Anyway, I believe the TPS's are unusally cheap (for a Zed part), so a new one won't be too painful.

andy is there any where on any forums that show you where to take the reading for the TPS sensor, just incase i am taking it from the wrong place.

the car was at operating temp and at 850rpm when the timing was adjusted. idle has been tempremental for the last 4 weeks but getting worse.

all fixed. its the white wire you do the test on, now its all fine. grey connector before the tps.
