Hi fellas!

I've got an ongoing debate with someone with regards to timing and what "advancing" and "retarding" actually means. Perhaps one of you can put this baby to bed ...

When changing timing from e.g., 15 degrees BTDC to 13 degrees BTDC, are you "advancing" or "retarding" the timing?

I have a "fairly" good idea what the answer is ( wink.gif but I need backup ... safety in numbers etc. wink.gif

Many thanks!

Danny

Correct.

You need to think about it from the point of reference of the combustion stroke - You are making the Spark Happen Later in the combustion stroke hence you are retarding it - If you Advance it you are making it spark sooner in the combustion stroke Etc Etc....

Hope that helps to clear things up.
