Ok folks this is really just to confirm im going down the right lines and am not missing anything :)

The new shorty was a non runner so started on that

thought she was seized but got her turning over now

getting weak spark from the plugs so will be using Bartflaster`s old spark plugs when i change them on sunday to try that

getting fuel up to the fuel rail and into cylinders so no fuel problem

therefore PTU should be ok just no hint of her trying to fire yet.

engine has been stood for a while by the looks of it. gonna do a compression test when i get the tester and see what im getting

Anything else i have missed i know you guys love these threads to get your brains working :)

Sounds like you're going about it right mate. You could try a bit of contact cleaner on the connectors. Have a look at the ptu make sure it's not gone green on the the connections.

yeah was gonna chuck on a spare ptu as well if i can get hold of one or use my spare series 2 one

Stick plenty of good fuel in her too! & de flood her it don't take much to flood .. So pull the fuel pump fuse & plant the throttle while turning her over for a count of 10seconds! This should de-flood her.

old fuel in the tank could be causing issues

possibly so yes might take a sample see if it burns  plus change fuel filter may be water in the system now

could well be the ptu has packed up, If you have a spare i would try that 1st

+1. As you know i'm not mechanically minded but what you are describing is what mine did when the S1 ptu failed. Did all the same checks and cleaned all connectors but nothing until swapped to a known working ptu. Fired immediately and since upgraded to S2.

the obvious cure would be stop buying ratters

How many have you had

had a quick crack today as i had some used good spark plugs to try and a good ptu. Still nothing though. Also had my compression tester now too but im not sure if it is going on tight enough as all i can do is tighten it with the flexi pipe by twisting it. Was getting readings of 60-80 psi on the 3 i checked and that was on both banks will have another go or may need to get a draper extension for the tester that i have seen on ebay

did you test it with the throttle open?

yes

Daft question but is the battery OK?

ive got it hooked up to mine to keep the battery charging

Just a couple of ideas;

Check that the engine harness is correctly plugged in to the ECU.

Maybe Dodgy Coilpacks, but would be a bit odd if all of them had failed.

Are the injectors clicking away?

Dodgy engine loom, earths.

fuel is being delivered

coil pack resistance is fine

the car is turning over just not firing so it is all earthing out fine just not firing

this could be caused by really old contaminated fuel or low compression which is what im thinking.

Just doesnt seem to want to fire however i havent had a full day at it yet so

Have you done an ECU diagnostic check?

smithy

nope ill get onto it in the light :)

Ok a little update on this. Ive cleaned the ptu connections and used a good ptu from zedworld. Ive put 5 litres of new fuel in the tank however gauge was already showing half full but possibly old fuel.

Checked timing it is spot on

getting a spark and fuel pump is working fine.

She is trying to fire now im getting at least 2 pistons firing but not starting as of yet

Could do with draining the fuel tank really but there is 30 litres in there so dont really want to do that. Tomorrow gonna check each cylinder and make sure there is a good spark on each but other than that i think she is slowly coming back to life

Havent managed to do a compression test yet as the long adapter i got seems to be sticking so im sending it back and got a draper one on the way. would be good to get some fuel into the engine that doesnt come from the tank.

Old trick but dry pooring a little 3in1 oil into each cylinder then try her this would up the compression temporarily ? Just an idea !!
