Brakes

OK, I know brakes have been discussed here before, but what really is the best value brake upgrade around? I'm looking for something that will slow the car down effectively rather than mushing around slightly and letting the car in front slow you down) without costing an arm and a leg.

Just got my Zed back, and I could swear my fiancee's Pug 106 brakes better (and that's shite).

I'd like to keep the insurance people happy - does a disk upgrade count as a performance enhancement or a safety upgrade? I'm planning to put a Jap spec brake light in the spoiler too.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

James.

James,

If you are looking for brakes on a budget you might be best looking at gettin some nice new Vented discs for the front, and some uprated pads that will help with stopping and fade - Something like Porterfield or the likes - whatever is in at the time - Ring GPS for the latest deals.

You will also want some Stainless steal braided brake hoses this will help with tranismission of pressure to the calipers and improve the mushy feel you get from the stock setup.

If you are still not happy with that lot you will need to upgrade the Calipers to something better like 4 or 6 piston jobs there are lots of kits out there Brembo from the Skylines are popular. However with this you are looking at spending 600+ whereas the discs pads and lines can be yours for

ap racing for £1450 plus vat awesome 343mm discs and 6 pot calipers.

Cheers everyone.

What is the normal insurance aspect of an upgrade like the ZedWorld one? Have you got any experience of this and, if they see it as a performance upgrade, are there any arguments you know work?

Also, I'm considering upgrading intake, exhaust and ecu at some point soon(ish). Will the upgrades mentioned be capable of handling, say 400 - 450 brake effectively or would I have to upgrade again? I'd prefer a solution that will be fine with the engine tweaks (yes I know the insurers will hammer me for this but I'd like to keep them sweet for the time being).

OUCH!! Andy be nice.

Where can you get the AP 343mm and six pot kit from? is there any way to retain ABS with those calipers?

Cheers,

Brian

Tony,

Do you mean 330mm AP discs?

If they now manufacture a 343mm disc with 6pot caliper then this would not fit within most 18" wheels.

My 330mm with 6pots only just give the required 5mm clearance.
